Holiday Parks in Dorset: We Review Waterside Holiday Park & Spa and Discover What is New for 2018

After looking at holiday parks in Dorset we decided to head back to the Waterside Holiday Park and Spa at Bowleaze Cove Weymouth. We visited two years ago and really enjoyed staying there and with a long hot summer promised in the UK we had decided on staycation this year. We timed it perfectly to coincide with a heatwave and we could not have wished for better weather or a better stay.

Waterside Park is a 5* holiday parks in Dorset and has an outdoor, indoor pool and kids splash zone where my two swam every day whilst I lounged and supervised! There is also a spa where I experienced a deluxe facial which left my skin in tip top condition which was needed after time in the sun. The holiday park is opposite the beach and it is easily accessible from the back of the site.

We stayed in a Capri Static Caravan which can sleep up to 8 and has two twin rooms and a double. There are two bathrooms with showers and all mod cons in the kitchen area including dishwasher, microwave and there were four TV’s in the van. It was really spacious and a great size for the four of us. Erin and Dylan no longer like sharing so we usually opt to go for bigger spaces for them.

Since our last visit in 2016 there have been some new additions which have totally transformed the site and what is on offer. We didn’t think it needed improving, as we rated it so highly last time but these new additions are the icing on the cake and demonstrate how Waterside Holiday Park is committed to improving and developing things for their customers.

The major landscape change is the new Shack which is behind the kids club. The Shack is an outside bar area that also serves food. It is open all day and evening and has seating outside. Alongside this is a newly built large outdoor play area for children, complete with swings, slides and climbing frames. Then there is the new green area and plenty of deck chairs where you can sit and overlook the sea. We able to sit there whilst Erin went down to the sea for a paddle, as we could see her so clearly.

Activity wise there is now archery for children which can be booked in the leisure centre. My two had ago for an hour and both really enjoyed it. The instructor guided them but pretty much leaves them to master it themselves. As they get to grips with the bow and arrow he gives them challenges like popping the balloon he pins to the board. Erin was very excited when she finally popped it!

In addition, there are now watersports available from near the shack, Jurrasic Coast Activities have a base there where you can hire paddleboards and or kayaks. This makes it really convenient and you can go at your own pace. Both Dylan and I had a go and really enjoyed an hour of peace out in the sea. Both of us got to standing and were soon zipping about on the water.

  1. It looks brilliant! We have booked to go to a holiday park for a few days next week, it’s great to be able to go somewhere with loads to do on site, so much more relaxing than having to go off out each day.

  2. Looks fab for families Emma, especially adventurous families. The archery and water sports look great. What a perfect summer to opt for a staycation too! ??

  3. I have always wanted to try paddle boarding and can not wait for the two year old to grow up enough that he will sit on the end of the board. It looks like so much fun! Sounds like a great place to stay and one I will make a note of for the future x

  4. It’s wonderful to here that you enjoyed your visit again two years later. Sometimes it’s never quite the same second time around. The improvements sound family friendly and it’s always good to hear of new improvements rather than resting on their laurels.

  5. There are some amazing places to stay on our coastline but I have to admit that I hadn’t heard of this one until I saw your social media stories, it looks brilliant and definitely somewhere that we will consider in future.
