I was feeling rather smug, the presents were all bought carefully and I promised myself that I would not panic buy another pile of gifts after questioning whether I had already bought enough. I have restrained from buying the top ten toys just because someone else informed me that my children’s childhood would be scarred if I didn’t provide them with the top ten.
However I have still found myself adding in last minute gifts when really I know I am just providing them with more to unwrap and discard to the side in favour of the few things that they have asked for.
When I think back to my childhood toys there are some that really stand out. The home-made dolls house that my dad made for me and also the snooker table that he built for my brother. The same snooker table that now resides in our garage and is at times a snooker table and at other times a table tennis table. Either way those gifts lasted the test of time.
The toy I wanted but was never given was a Mr Frosty – we had a soda stream you see?? No I didn’t see the connection either but my parents did! Over the years I can recall the popular toys that we really played with and those that held their value. Erin is massively into Sylvanian Families which I have always regarded as expensive. However a quick look on selling sites show that they are still popular and will hold their value. Especially if you have the boxes – I did keep our boxes for a while but the husband threw them out in a fit of cleaning and tidying the garage. My mother in law has some retro Fisher Price toys that Erin still plays with when we visit and I have often wondered what these are worth now. I wish I had kept many of our old toys as they were so well made in previous decades.
The Co-operative Insurance have developed a great tool which allows you to price up the toy-box items that you had or have. It is really interesting to see just what your old toys are worth.
Use the tool Toys will be toys to click on the decade you grew up and simply click on the toys that you had to see what they are worth. You never know you may still have some! My brother was a child of the 80’s and it was all about He Man and She Ra. He had boxes of the figures and I know he is glad that my parents kept some. Likewise he had the Ninja Turtles which have made a huge comeback and his own son now has a bedroom decorated in Turtle paraphernalia.

hahaha! Everyone including myself wanted a Mr Frosty for Christmas. I never got one either. This year I have bought my youngest an Olaf slushie maker with is similar. Purely for my own amusement. x
