How to Bring a Home from Home Feeling to Your Holiday Accommodation

When it comes to a staycation, sometimes we want to pack an element of home with us, to help bring comfort and familiarity to our accommodation.

With this in mind, we wanted to fast-forward to the autumn and show you ways, you could personalise your October holidays UK destination staycation accommodation and create a more home-from-home feel.

Here are some tips and ideas to help you add a personal touch to your temporary living space…

Blankets, throws and pillows

Adding cosy blankets and pillows to the seating area or bedrooms can instantly make the space feel more inviting, comfortable and relaxing.

You could choose colours and patterns that complement your style and make you feel at home, or pack ones from your house.

Photos and artwork

Why not bring along some framed artwork or family photos to dot around your accommodation? Doing this, will not only add a personal touch to your staycation but also create a warm and welcoming atmosphere too.

Reading Nook

If space allows within your staycation accommodation, and you, or your children, love nothing more than snuggling down with a good book, why not create a cosy reading nook? This can easily be done by arranging a comfortable chair or bean bag with a small side table and a lamp. This will provide a peaceful spot to relax and unwind with a good book.

Personalise the kitchen

Add a touch of you to the kitchen by bringing along your favourite tea towels. You could even put down a small kitchen rug to add a pop of colour and texture to the kitchen too.

You may even wish to bring your own coffee mugs or wine glasses, for a touch of familiarity.

Plants

Bringing some of your small potted plants is another great way to add a little bit of familiarity to your accommodation. Not only this, but you’ll be able to water them whilst away, rather than wondering if you left enough water for them, or if your house sitter has remembered to water your favourite plant.

A cosy outdoor space

If your holiday accommodation has an outdoor seating area you may wish to bring some outdoor cushions, a garden rug with you, or some solar lights, to help create a cosy and inviting space to unwind, dine al fresco or have an evening gathering with friends or family outside.

Smells like home

You can’t bring your home with you, but you could pack the scent of it instead, to help convey a sense of familiarity to your staycation. You can do this by popping an essential oil diffuser into the accommodation. This not only helps the place smell like home, but helps create a relaxing and calming ambience.

It’s important to remember that when personalising your accommodation, to respect the property and avoid making any permanent alterations, if you are only renting the place for the October half term. Focus on adding temporary touches that can be easily removed or packed up when your stay is over.
