How To Keep Your Relationship Strong After Having Children

You laugh and joke about the typical day as a parent. How you survive on coffee with the chaos surrounding you on a daily basis. How you no longer have time for yourself and let alone your partner.

All you do is try to find a way to worry less about your parenting abilities, that everything else can fall to the sidelines. This is especially true with young children. You may still have sleepless nights along with the endless and exhausting tasks of washing, cooking, cleaning, paying the bills, bath time, endless activities to try and keep them stimulated and entertained, that after a while the days seem to blur into one. Come to the end of the day you feel so spent that you don’t even think about keeping the romantic spark lit in the relationship So, the big question is how can you keep that romance alive and the relationship happy and strong.

Before, looking at solutions just know, this is completely normal. Especially when your children are young as they are so dependent upon you. But, the amazing news is there are definitely ways to show appreciation and keep your relationship strong through the challenges of raising children.

Give Your Partner A Break

You’ve probably been there with the kids when you get to a point where you are at breaking point. In cases like this try to step up and give your significant other that break they need. Even if it’s taking the kids upstairs to play or a half-hour trip to the park. This little bit of rest bite for them will be enough to allow them to have a breather and a hot drink. A small physical and emotional break sometimes is all that is needed. Plus let’s be honest, you would look at your partner with a higher level of fondness after that little sit-down

Communication Is Key

Good communication is the foundation of all strong and healthy relationships. There will always be times in your relationship when you have ups and downs and when you add in exhaustion and stresses of raising children, communication is more important than ever. You need to be able to clearly communicate what is going well, what you need help with, and generally having the opportunity to speak with another adult. There will be times when you need to be able to let out your feelings and having a supportive person there to listen is all it takes.

Remember To Show Appreciation It is really important to acknowledge what your partner brings to the relations and the upbringing of your children. It can be easy to sometimes start spiraling into a cycle of just seeing what you are doing and ignoring or missing what they are contributing. By consciously being mindful of this you will find yourself naturally being more appreciative of what they contribute. Even small things like saying thank you can be enough or considering more personal ways to show gratitude such as personalized gifts for anniversaries.
