There has been a trend for grey interiors and exteriors, crushed velvet fabrics and homes that all look very similar. Is anyone else dying to see personality in homes, a pop of colour and some quirkiness? There is no need for us all to be the same or jump onto the latest trend. In this post, I am sharing some interior home hacks that can make your home interiors pop and add a bit of fun that shows your personality.
Wall Art
Wall art is a brilliant and cheap way to update your home interior. You can opt for slogans and positive affirmations. I love these especially if you have teenagers and children in the house because they absorb the subliminal messages every single day. However, wall art also offers the opportunity to experiment, add bold colours, modern artwork or whatever else you find interesting. Changing wall art can be inexpensive — just take a trip to the nearest charity shop if you are experimenting — so don’t be afraid to try new looks. For something a bit fancier, neon signs can look amazing in teenage bedrooms or in game rooms.
Another way to add interesting pieces to your home is to choose items that people will want to talk about. Cuckoo clocks are a great talking point and give your home some individuality — and they are just so kid-friendly. It is thought that much of the development and evolution of the cuckoo clock happened in the Black Forest area in southwestern Germany. You may be surprised at how modern the cuckoo clock can be if the traditional wooden look isn’t your style. My grandparents had a chiming clock during my childhood and I remember it with great affection. I imagine a cuckoo clock would evoke similar memories in a home today.
Statement Furniture
Another way to make your home interior interesting is to add a key focal point with statement furniture. You want to decorate as a designer would so choose standout pieces that add interest to a room. Most designers will recommend that even the smallest of rooms have one large statement piece, such as a large chair or cabinet. One of my favourite places for one-off pieces is always HomeSense or TK Maxx. Mix things up with colour and texture.

Home Furnishings and Accents
Add texture to your home with drapes, cushions and throws to liven things up. This again is an easy low-cost option. If you have a grey sofa, you can regularly switch things up with your soft furnishings and pillows. Even using different shades of the same base colours helps add interest to your home interiors.
These easy swaps and ideas will take your home from boring to interesting without requiring a whole redesign. We’ve all been homebound for so long that you are probably tired of staring at the same furniture and home decor. Liven it all up with the tips above and enter to win your very own cuckoo clock!
