Hello fellow gardeners, Spring is coming, and you are forced to stay at home because of Covid-19. This provides the perfect opportunity to step-up your gardening game and show it off to your neighbours. It’s time to make a change! Spring is here, and changes are appearing. Let’s talk about ways to a makeover that garden of yours shall we?

Why should you start making over your garden?
Before we “dig in” to the methods to step-up your gardening game, let me give you a few reasons to do it! Well, first of all, it provides many benefits (you could even see it as an investment). To name a few, it can serve as a source of vegetables or cooking ingredients, decoration, or even as a way to reduce food waste. These benefits can lead to saving money, reducing pollution, and many others! The act of gardening itself can also give you good exercise!
How Should You Start?
1. Prune and Remove
Trim your plants by cutting back dead, sick or overgrown plants. This can improve a plant’s fruitfulness, quality of flowers, health, and growth. This also includes removing those pesky weeds that grow on your lawn.
2. Apply Fresh Mulch
The best thing to do in order to suppress the growth of more weeds is to apply a thick layer of fresh mulch. It is recommended to put a barrier of weed killer underneath the mulch after raking it.
3. Buy Pest Repellents
Spring is notorious for the emergence of pests, especially slugs and snails. Luckily, this can be solved by purchasing pest repellents. The choice of which depends on your location. Ranging from a dormant spray to control caterpillars and insects through to planting specific plants such as basils, alyssum, and buckwheat to attract insects that can help you combat dangerous pests.
4. Personalize
Nothing is better than a garden that truly expresses yourself. Modify your garden into a mini-farm, into a Japanese themed garden, or any other theme that you like and love. Adding new plants (especially the hardy ones) such as tulips, hyacinths, and camelia is highly recommended as long it fits your garden theme. The last thing to do if you have a birdhouse in your garden is to clean it and refill the food if there is any.
5. Furnish and Polish
Last but not least, and although it might seem costly. Polishing and furnishing a garden is a simple yet easy way to step up your garden game. If you have a deck, then grab a high-pressure hose and spray. Maybe updating your old furniture might be the best way to change the atmosphere! If replacing furniture isn’t your cup of tea, then moving your furniture might be the key. There are many ways and theories around moving furniture and all, and sometimes it’s just better to leave it to the gardener that knows the best.
Conclusion
In conclusion, making over your garden is a very productive activity which promotes a wide variety of benefits. Although it might seem hard, with the proper equipment, help from family members, and a decent guide, you are more than ready to makeover your garden. As a short guideline, prune, remove (and mulch), use pest removal, personalize, furnish, and polish. So what are you waiting for, get out of bed and step-up your gardening game my fellow gardeners!
