I thought I knew Gloucester quite well having been born and bred in the county however today I learnt a few new things like Thomas Yate was the Mayor of Gloucester in 1665. I know this because today we have taken part in a Gloucester treasure hunt with Huntfun, these treasure hunts are completed in your own time and are available for so many locations from Penzance to Whitby and a host of places along the way. They are great fun to do with children and I would certainly do one again when visiting places of interest as it keeps the children amused. Obviously you can stop as you go and even pop in a teashop!

I’m born and bred in Oxford yet really don’t know it as well as I should! I feel bad about it sometimes as there are some beautiful places here, such as all the colleges and other University-related buildings. We have some gorgeous Botanical Gardens here with unusual plants, and it’s a lovely spot to go for a picnic in the summer. Great news about nPower offering 2 for 1s!
Sometimes I think we can see our towns differently when we have children, we venture to places we would have passed by for years. Great you can get 2 for 1, family days out can be so very expensive
This is such a cool idea! As a self-professed history nerd, I couldn’t think of anything better for locals, or for those tourists who want to experience sites that are off the beaten track. Would love to have something like this in Ireland!

Y’know, I live in Derbyshire and I’ve hardly visited any of what’s considered to be our ‘star attractions’. And the other day someone mentioned something I’d never even heard of, so I think it’s safe to say I don’t know my local area that great!!

I meant to spend some time in Gloucester this summer, introducing the girls to the city they were born, but the holidays have flown by and we haven’t been into town once. Will have to look at one of these treasure hunts and maybe do it at half term. Thanks for this recommendation!
I think most people really don’t know everything about their own home towns, we really should make more of an effort to discover the hidden gems! Glad you’ve make it past the summer hols hump day. I have all of this to come 😛 Xx
