A lazy Saturday

My husband asked me what my plans are for this weekend.  I smiled a big grin and said nothing.  My plans involved doing not much with my children.  After the past two weekends, one in hospital with Erin on IV antibiotics followed by a dose of chicken pox and last weekend back on the ward with Dyl for his yearly allergic reaction to the council cutting the verges, I had no plans.

Lee let me stay in bed but even Erin decided to have a lie in till gone 8. I was woken with coffee at nine but still didn’t get up. When I did come down I was greeted with Dyl and Erin lounging about in their PJ’s. Erin refused to get dressed until lunchtime and both of them just laid on the sofa watching TV. I didn’t feel one ounce of guilt that we were being lazy instead I revelled in it. Our weekends are too fast and life is not relaxing at the moment. This confirmed that something has to give, we are burning out. Today was an ordinary day and I have been waiting for an ordinary day.

Chloe went dancing but the rest of us pottered. We had sausage sandwiches for lunch, we went to the gym for a swim and then came home. I played with Erin on her bike, encouraging her to do her physio and strengthen those little legs. We planted some daffodils in the garden and sorted some rubbish out. I even got the ironing done. It was all finished off with a chippy tea before Saturday night TV with Chloe and Dyl.

We needed today, just an ordinary day.

  1. Sounds bloody perfect to me! I haven’t had a weekend like that in ages. Life is too fast and too busy. I’m going to book in an ordinary day soon, you have inspired me!
