In this masterpiece I will take you through the specific places which you must visit when you get to Mumbai and what exactly is in these places that will improve your child’s cultural know-how.
Before you think of booking a Chennai to Mumbai flight, here’s an overview of the cultural activities and things that your children should engage in.
- Social Events: Having your children take part in Indian social and cultural events will enrich them with Indian cultural knowledge.
- Books: Books are great tools for children to learn from. Think of taking them to one of the local libraries in Mumbai and observe their progress.
- Songs: Another educational material that will enrich your kids with Mumbai’s cultural knowledge are local songs.
- Play Materials: Think of taking your children to one playground in Mumbai and let them interact with the local kids. As days go, you’ll notice some cultural change.
- Biographical Stories Of Local People: These can be found in museums where they’ll learn from other cultural staff.
Now, the question is, which Mumbai sites should you visit?
Let’s dive in.
Mani Bhavan Gandhi Museum
The Mani Bhavan Gandhi Museum is one site that will enrich your children’s cultural knowledge. I have included it to this list because it is dedicated to India and Indian culture. Paying a visit to this place ensures that your kids get to learn about different biographical stories of the local people.
Apart from the biographical information from this museum, you can have your children visit Taj Mahal -the iconic golden statue of Indira Gandhi. Either way, you can be assured that your children will love this trip.
Asiatic Library

The Asiatic library located at Town Hall, Shahid Bhagat Singh Road Horniman Circle is like a portal back into the past. This library is over 200 years old. It is a home of more than 60,000 books on varied subjects including rarest manuscripts, journals, articles, magazines, newspapers, among other materials which are more than a century old. Almost all materials in this library can be found online but for a much more valuable glimpse, it’s best if your children physically head there.
I’ve included Asiatic library to this list because they usually organize discussion sessions meant to ensure that visitors understand every cultural aspect they want to learn and if you’ve tought your children to be responsible, they should have no problem .
Tiny Tots Kids Playground
As aforementioned, kids love it when they have a place set aside for playing. With the limited space in India, someone might think that there are no dedicated playing zones. The truth is, there are quite a number in Mumbai one of them being Tiny Tots playground found in Bandstand Promenade, Bandra.
This is a popular little park in which your children can entertain themselves with local kids and learn from each other. It has some basic playing equipment but since the local children are creative, they can teach your kids a number of cultural/traditional games like Pachisi, Lattoo, Kancha, Nondi, and Lippa which will enrich their cultural knowledge.
Mount Mary Church & Mahalakshmi Temple
Cultural enrichment isn’t just about sports/games, libraries and traditional events but also religious nourishment. For that, taking your children to Mount Mary church or Mahalakshmi temple will do them good.
To start with, the Mount Mary church is the best destination for Roman Catholic followers. It happens to be the oldest church in Mumbai, Bandra. Here, there is a beautiful statue of the Virgin Mary made from pure ballast. You can have your kids participate in regular prayers that take place here.
An alternative place you can take them is the marvelous Mahalakshmi temple located near Bhulabhai Desai Road, Mumbai.
Dhakji Dadaji a Hindu merchant built this temple in 1831 and made it a place to worship goddess Mahalakshmi. There’s a lot that your children will learn while there so don’t forget to include it on your tour destinations list.
Engage in Social Events
Social events are winter’s peak tourist influx in Mumbai.
There are several great festivals celebrated during the months of October to February, when millions of people flock to Mumbai for the festival. A festival known as the ‘Queen’s Necklace Festival’, which is dedicated to the queen of Mughals, is celebrated in January.
One of the major reasons behind the popularity of this festival is the presence of the famed Indian actress Sunny Deol who narrates her life story at the festival -your kids will be heavily inspired after this festival.
Other Cultural Activities
In addition to the above cultural places, there are some great places for shopping.
The city has a number of departmental stores and malls that offer a wide range of unique goods to buy, and you can also find a variety of exclusive brands at these shops. If you choose to take your children shopping, they will find plenty to choose from.
Shopping in Mumbai is easy. Almost every street has some shopping stores, which feature everything from designer clothes to electronics to jewelry. You will easily be able to find an excellent range of products to suit the budget and taste of your children.
Shopping with them will enrich your children’s cultural knowledge in a fun, easy, and safe way. They will be able to explore the city’s beautiful culture and traditions while having fun and getting the education that they need.
