It has been a summer of indulgence. A summer of waking up naturally as opposed to my Fitbit shaking me awake. A summer of doing the minimum paid work and a summer of fun with the children. It was a long summer that started way back in June with that mother daughter Post GCSE holiday in Kos but the fun has to end. The bank of mum is looking glum and is in need of topping up, my body has drank and eaten in excess and it is time to get some control back. Summer is coming to an end and I can feel Autumn nipping at my ankles. The children are all returning to their various clubs and training this week and they will not be the only ones.
We have eaten as and when and we have lacked routine. I started a new fitness class at Fittastic Gloucester but so far after all the good work I have hit the pub and drank prosecco like my life depended on it. There has been too many afternoon Pimms or opening bottle of wine only to discover the bottle is empty by 10pm. It has been fun but my body needs a break.
Somewhere last year I stopped running – I am not sure exactly how or why but I have found myself popping on my jeans for the school run each morning instead of my joggers. But this September is a fresh start and I am determined to gain some control back and that is going to take some change. I know I drink too frequently and I honestly think it has just become another habit, a bit like eating that chocolate that Lee hides on the top shelf. The kids might not know it’s there but I do! I think the drinking in the evening has contributed to not running in the morning, although I never have a hangover it does leave me lacking some get up and go this article 7 Reasons it is difficult to train with a hangover puts it into perspective. Therefore I have set myself some health goals as I still haven’t booked in for my post 40 health check with the GP as I know the outcome and advice that will be offered! I will report back on how I am doing and you can see how I’m getting on as I will share my progress on my Twitter and instagram feed.
- Lose a stone – I have lost one so far this year, popped a little back on but will lose another.
- Use my gratitude journal to focus the mind and celebrate the good.
- Get running, yes those trainers are coming out of retirement.
- Continue with Fittastic
- Get my 10,000 steps five days a week. Starting today.
- Drink less alcohol- I am a little reluctant to state a number on this but I am going to not drink so much in the week.
- Drink more water – 2 litres a day right. Bring it on.
I am focused and I can do this. What bad habits have you slipped into over the summer and what are you doing about them?
