This time last week Erin was playing in the garden, one week on and its all change. However it is not all doom and gloom, Thursday was a turning point. Wednesday had been a tough day but Thursday was a new day and it bought my little girl back to me alot more. She was much happier, much more settled and had slept better the night before due to phenergan.
Life has got easier again, I am now confident handling her, I was awkward and over protective the first few days. Now I know I don’t hurt her and she is still robust. Nappy changing has become second nature, thankfully no explosive nappies to deal with yet and my paranoia with hygiene and smells is slowly abating. I think we are lucky as I can put a complete nappy on her by stuffing it under the cast. At first Erin didn’t like this but has adapted now. Obviously with most babies you hold the legs up when you change them, Erin has to be flipped from front to back.
I had bought out most of Boots and the different size nappies and sanitary and maternity pads as was advised that she would need these. Now I have enough to open my own branch as I just use my usual size 4+! Still it was better to be prepared.
One positive note already is how much Erin’s speech has developed this week alone. She was a grunter, a pointer, or a sod this I’ll get it myself er. Now she is having to ask for things and she can actually say all these words she has been reluctant to say up till now.
The second positive is her fine motor skilsl are developing. She has developed a liking for fuzzy felts and puzzles. She already coloured lots but her fondess for jigsaws is a new thing and guess whats on next months birthday list now!!
Next week I aim to get out and about with her more as I think its really important for her social skills and my sanity. We are going to turn up to a mother and toddler group. I am a bit apprehensive as I have never been into these type of cliquey groups and hate feeling like the new girl (it brings out my insecurities) but I am going to give it a whirl.
As Forest Gump said: My momma always said, “Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.”
Sharing is caring!

Gosh that looks so hard. As if babies aren’t time-consuming enough! Well done for having such a positive attitude to it x
