Just how do you say thank you to the friend that has looked after your children for the past ten years? How can you ever find the words or the present that conveys your thanks. I met my childminder just over ten years ago when Chloe was about to start school. I went to her house as I had got her details from the council and went to see if she would be right for Chloe. She was absolutely right and I soon asked her to have Dylan when I returned to work.
In the ten years since, Gaynor has become my friend. She has seen the children at their best and their worst. It was her house I arrived on Boxing day after Dylan had spent Christmas in hospital. It was Gaynor who guessed I was preganant with Erin before I had told anyone and it was Gaynor in an ambulance with me when I passed out heavily pregnant and with my blood pressure through the floor!
One text to Gaynor and I know my children are happy and safe. They love her, especially Dyl who she has cared for since he was seven months old. It was Gaynor’s house he arrived at when he had gotton in muddle about how to get home. It is at her house he has a favourite chair and reminds the other mindees that he has been their the longest.
Just how do you thank that person? Now I am leaving the classroom for a while we don’t need childcare and I want to say thanks.
