Buying a home is the single biggest expense you will have during your lifetime. We are on our third home and plan on being here for a long time yet.
When we bought our home some ten years ago I knew what I was going to change! The floor tiles downstairs and the main bathroom not having a shower. They were two things I knew I would change and yet they are still the same! Three children and one bathroom without a shower mean that my ensuite should have a revolving door rather than a traditional one. It is a good job we are all close and don’t mind the children just bursting into our room as they wish!
This year though I would like to have a new kitchen and have been tentatively looking. We have no plans to move from this house for a long while but there are still things I would like to have done. Then I would like white cupboards and new worktops.
- Fast broadband is also becoming more important as wifi is now classed as the fourth utility and something that is vital in our modern society.
- Bringing the outside in. If the home is a family home, having a good garden adds value but also making sure that roof tiles are all ok and that the front door is in good repair is really important. One of the first impressions is on the front door, it is also the first thing we changed when we moved into our home ten years ago as my husband has a thing about who has keys to a house. Changing the door ensures no-one does!
