Father’s Day is fast approaching and it is the perfect time to spend some quality time together as a family. This year we will actually be away for Fathers Day. We shall be in Center parcs as part of the Tots1oo ambassodar programme which I won back in October last year. We are finally going for our weekend away with the lovely Jane and family. We shall be enjoying the forest, plenty of walking and a little bit of horse riding thrown in for good measure. I cannot wait to see my husband on a horse. It is a sight I have never seen before. The children cannot wait to do this with him either as they are always up for a challenge. The two littles are not allowed to horse ride due to their hips so will be attending a princess themed party instead. I just hope the weather is kind to us.
However if you are not going away for Father’s day there is probably plenty going on in your own woods and lots for fre! Our local forest is the beautiful ‘Royal Forest of Dean’ and we are frequent visitors, there is so much to see and do up there and I love going in the summer. Dylan goes with cubs and has stayed in part of the Forrest. There is a fab sculpture trail at Beechenhurst and plenty of places to picnic. If you have a Discovery pass you recieve free parking and various discounts. The pass in itself would make a nice fathers day gift. There is also a lovely coffee shop that makes a great hot chocolate and sells woodland inspired gifts. Whilst you browse or drink the children can play in a lovely adventure playground that is right next to the cafe. If you are more adventurous the nearby ‘Go Ape’ will give you an adrenaline rush.
My ideal day would involve Go Ape followed by chilling out and playing a game of French Cricket with the kids in the open spaces. They also have climbing walls and countless activities going for the children. I have been abseiling in that area before mostly at ‘Mallards Pike’ with my youth group and it is always fun. There are plenty of great picnic spots and I do like the chance to use my new picnic set. However you choose to spend the day, there is always lots going on for everyone.
Therefore I really do suggest you check out what is happening in your local forest.
