Being online is a way of life now shopping, playing games and of course social media. Just ten years ago shopping online became a thing and now we don’t think twice about shopping online. It makes buying presents and toys easier and there needs to be no more running back and forth to the car with multiple bags.
Playing online games is just as popular be it viia facebook or on your desktop. These games have become more and more popular and far moved on a long way from ‘snake’ and ‘tetris’ which were the games of choice when I was young.
My children can now play a host of games and this makes travelling easier (as the play during long journeys) and also a games they play at home whilst learning the basics of a computer. My initial computer lessons were on a BBC computer – one for a class of thirty. Now my Erin enjoys lessons on both iPad’s and laptops. Blogging is now even on the year 5 curriculum.
Erin has been playing Star Stable the past few weeks and it has quickly established itself as a firm favourite game. Star Stable is an online horse game where you select the horse you want, you groom and pet the horse in addition to having quests. Completing quests earns you money and experience which means that you can access more things. The game is free to play up to level four after that you subscribe on a monthly basis or you can buy lifetime membership. This enables you to become a star rider.
The game can take a while to download but once done the graphics are good and gives hours of fun.
The game teaches a multitude of skills and as a mum and teacher that’s what I like.
Within the game there are many fun, educational activities for your kids to enjoy, including:
- Learning social skills and building solid relationships by chatting with friends, and taking part in player-created riding clubs.
- Problem solving by facing challenges in a world that is constantly changing and expanding.
- Developing a sense of responsibility, from the financial management of virtual currency ‘Star Coins’ to caring for their own horses.
- Star Stable encourages reading and engagement with fiction: The Star Stable story is now 248,000 words long and gets bigger every week!
If your little girl is into horses either as a current rider or just from reading about them or watching them this iis a great game to introduce them to what looking after a real horse could entail. For me it is also the only way that we can afford a horse!!
