Today was Erin’s first settling in session at nursery. I don’t mind sharing that there were tears and tantrums last night -all mine naturally!! I am worried, afterall I have had the same childminder for the past 7 years it is and will continue to be a big change for me to get used too. Luckily Erin is adaptable and young enough to get used to the change quickly. I am a little older and I feel it may take a little longer.
After many years of minding, the lady that first became my childminder, then a close friend is packing away her pre school toys and swapping them for a cattery in her garden. She has decided to follow her families long wanted idea of working for the cats protection league fostering cats. Whilst I am entirely happy for her I am devasted for me! Thankfully she isnt finishing totally and will still have Chloe and Dylan before and after school.
This morning I was really anxious. I have viewed a nursery before and I was surprised at how many children were in one room! (all obv within legal limits) more than I am used too! The idea of Erin sleeping on a mat lined up with other children intrigues me, I can’t imagine it. Erin will be going for two days a week and I really liked the staff on the viewing and the children all seemed happy. Besides I didn’t really have a choice, I need to be in my classroom by 8.15 am and I was lucky that a nursery on my route had spaces.
I stayed with her for a while then left her for an hour. She did shed a few tears as I left, because it is a much noiser environment than she was used to. But when I arrived back I spied her sitting listening to the singing time. She was excitied when I picked her up though!
We go back tomorrow for tea time before she starts on tuesday. Gosh as a working mum there is always something going on that makes us feel pulled in different directions.
