Do you celebrate valentines day or is it just a commercialised day in your book? We tend to get each other a card but that’s all. The husband tells me that we don’t need the media telling us we have to prove our love on one special day, that we can do it whenever. However truth is we don’t we often chat about having a date night and say we don’t do enough as a couple but when you have three children it is not always easy to arrange anything.! Actually that is not fair he does bring me flowers sometimes for no reason other than they were being sold off cheap or that he was being thoughtful. He does keep me supplied in wine and prosecco though.
If I’m honest I actually show the children more affection than I actually show the husband on this particular day. I tend to pop a few chocolate hearts in places for the children. One in the breakfast things and another in the lunchboxes.That is probably as far as my token gestures goes!
However I did consider surprising my husband this year and making some effort. Not especially because it is Valentines day but because I haven’t treated him in a while unless you count the moisturiser deodorant set I bought him a couple of weeks ago in the Botts 70% off sale! I thought maybe I’ll make an effort with dinner but then I remembered I’m going to be on a detox diet (starting Monday) and not eating much! Then I thought about getting babysitter and we could go out. Then I realised I’m not supposed to be drinking alcohol for the duration of the 21 day detox either I know I could go out and not drink but I don’t see the point – I might as well be at home in the warm with the TV.
There seems to be a popular film that is due out next week ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ and many are expected to flock to see it over Valentines weekend, but I’m not sure if that would be a film I’d prefer to see with a bunch of girls or my husband. My other idea is just to agree with him and tell him I don’t do commercialised days but if he wants to buy me some nice perfume as my bottle of Flowerbomb is running low then he is more than welcome. We are also on half term that week so he gets my company all week anyway with a trip to London thrown in therefore maybe he will just settle for that! Afterall spending time with me is a treat in itself!
