Certain parts of the capital really come alive during autumn. You won’t need to deal with such a high volume of tourist traffic, and you’ll get to see the city’s famous sites in an entirely new light. Here, we’ll run through a few of the places to visit at this time of year. What distinguishes them is an abundance of verdure, which will turn a lush shade of red and gold during late October.
London Eye
There are few better ways to see the city than from on-high. The famous London Eye is a great way of taking in the sights from its location just downriver from Westminster. If you’re on a budget, Discount London offers a great way to climb aboard the Eye without spending a packet.
Regent’s Canal
Regent’s Canal runs from Little Venice to the Docklands, and passes through several parks and a zoo along the way. Running along the sides are a series of trees, which during autumn form a wash of orange. If you want to see the canal, you can do so via kayak or narrowboat.
Regent’s Park
Regent’s Park is among the most notable stops along the canal. If you wanted to, you could spend an entire day here: there’s the aforementioned London Zoo, there’s Queen Mary’s Rose Gardens, and there’s an open air theatre which puts on performances throughout summer (though unfortunately not during autumn).
Kew Gardens
London is home to one of the world’s most prestigious botanical gardens: Kew. If you’re a fan of plant life, it should count as a must-visit. At this time of year, things aren’t quite so flowery as they were during the summer months. But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t plenty to do. Autumn Antics, the garden’s mini fringe-festival, offers comedy, workshops and performances that’ll keep adults and children entertained.
Kyoto Gardens
If you’d prefer to venture off the beaten track and get away from the hustle and bustle, then you might want to venture to Holland Park, where the secluded Kyoto Garden offers a dose of typically Japanese tranquillity. There are stone lanterns, Japanese maples and a series of tiered waterfalls descending into a pond filled with koi carp. The surrounding park is gorgeous during autumn, too – you’re almost certain to spot a few peacocks strutting around amongst the lawns. What better way could there be to spend a day in Autumn?
