Boys are so different to girls like apples and pears! After dropping Dylan at cub camp wearing a clean uniform with a very large bag full of jumpers, extra jumpers, trousers and extra joggers I drove away with a teeny lump in my throat. Will he last the distance without me – his first camp away? He was nervous, but also excitied.
Fast forward until Sunday afternoon. Daddy went and picked him up. When he arrived home he launched into my arms and then proceeded to inform me I hadn’t packed pj’s. Now I knew I had.
I had packed and double packed for him. After hearing the tales of the daredevil activities he had enthusicatlly joined in with I went to unpack the said bag. Upon peering into the depths of the bag that I expected to hold smelly clothes, maybe a few momentoes of the camp, even a few stray sweets I was slightly puzzled. Alas no – It all looked remarkably like how I had packed it. I saw the pairs of socks still in their two’s, the pj’s neatly lovingly packed.
After calling the boy upstairs I spied the socks he was wearing, yes they are the ones he had been wearing two days previously.
“oh yes – I didn’t think it was worth changing them”
What about these PJ’s I asked
“oh I never saw those ones”!
Why haven’t you washed Dylan?
“I did – I promise you, but I didn’t use THAT flannel”
After searching through the bag, he found the flannel he had used – it was the tea towel!
The toothbrush hadn’t been used because he didn’t really have time, especially as he slept in until 8.30am and breakfast was at 8.30am, therefore it was actually good plan that he slept in his clothes as he didn’t even have to get dressed.
Oh but don’t worry he DID find the secret stash of chocolate and little note that mummy had hidden! Good job I moved it to near the top of the bag – at first I had rolled it in the towel, it would never had been found!

I did the same thing when I went on Cub/Scout camp :L I used to love going there, that is until I got kicked out of the Scouts… :L
Thought you were going to say on a sixth form trip 😉
I imagine I would do the same on a 6th form trip 😉 All you really need in life is one outfit :L BTW, next time you take Dylan to Cubs, mention my name to R (if it’s still her running it down at the SV Hall) – she will quake in fear :L (Although don’t actually – we didn’t part on good terms :L)
