Why You Find It Hard To Nose Breathe

Nose breathing is far more effective for improving your health than mouth breathing. This is because your nose helps your body to retain more oxygen than your mouth. This helps your body to remain healthy, for the tissue to be hydrated and for your body to have a higher oxygenated blood level. But not everyone is able to breathe through their nose as easily as others. There are very good reasons for this, some of the genetic and others are purely down to our lifestyle choices. A small number of people will only be able to fix this using professional services and the others will find that their lives improve massively by their own actions.

Deviated septum

A deviated septum is down to genetics or sometimes to the environment. This is when the wall of cartilage that divides our nose, giving us nostrils, has become bent. You might have just grown up that way and your body developed to have a bent nose, or it could be due to a trauma impact such as a sports injury. One nostril becomes larger than the other, creating an imbalance in the ability for you to breathe consistently. Speak with Drjasonroth.com.au about your deviated septum and see how they might be able to help you. A rhinoplasty operation is the most common solution. A little piece of your cartilage will be cut out so the rest of it can fit properly inside the nose. Your breathing will be massively improved.

More than a common cold

During certain times of the year, the common cold will swell your sinuses and cause you to have difficulty breathing through your nose. It’s not just because of the allergic reaction to the virus, as your nose produces more mucus, but it’s also because the size of your sinuses block your sinus valves. However, this dies away after 1 week or so. What doesn’t however is sinusitis, which is an infection of the sinuses. This can produce a lot of mucus, waste products of fighting the infection. When this occurs you tend to also get a throat infection as you swallow the mucus dripping down the sinus. This might be one reason you can’t breathe as easily through your nose.

Sleep apnea

Nose breathing is far healthier and more efficient than breathing through your mouth. These are just some reasons why you may be having trouble breathing through your nose, can you think of any others?

The shape and size of your sinus, throat and windpipe can also affect your ability to breathe through your nose. If you find that you snore during the night and you may wake up from a lack of oxygen to the brain, you could be a candidate for a sleep apnea surgery or treatment. The valve in your sinus can collapse and this prevents smooth airflow to your lungs. Your muscles will then try harder to suck air in through the nose and hence, you tend to snore.
