If you tell me I can’t do something, it is all I think about. When I’m on a diet I think about food all the time. Suggest to me that I cannot drink for a month (a whole 12th of a year) and all I can think about is gin. Dry January to me is about guilt. People feel that they have over indulged in December and this will wipe the slate clean. This view was well expressed in yesterdays Telegraph. To those of you abstaining – great but its not for me.
I have three children, I work three days a week as a teacher and I run this blog. I’m busy.
Mondays often involve work meetings after school followed by Chloe having dancing lessons.
Tuesdays involve getting three children picked up from three different locations at 5pm. Followed by getting Dyl to cubs for 6pm. Sometimes I even manage to feed them inbetween.
Wednesdays are similar with getting Dyl to football and training and back again.
Thursdays are more relaxed as I don’t work but Dyl has tutoring in the evening.
Friday nights sees Erin at her swimming lesson.
Saturdays are crazy with dancing and football for the older two.
Therefore when I can fit in a drink I do. I like wine, white, rose or sparkling I’m not too fussy. I hold my hand up and admit I have fallen into that well targeted market of a 30 something year old, middle class mum who switches off by sitting on my sofa with a glass and surfing the net at the same time.
Therefore this January although my waistline has expanded I’m doing the whole drink detox, healthy food stuff my way. I will lose weight this month but I’m going to do it without banning myself from certain things. Otherwise I know I will just think about it all the more and then get cross with myself if I fail. I am also going to get my trainers back on as I am doing the Cheltenham half again. I also want a new challenge and plan to join a fitness class. Therefore you won’t see any facebook statuses from me counting down the days to Feb when others will pour that deserved glass of wine and go back to their old habits. Instead I’m going the slow way.
Sharing is caring!

I’m doing it to give my liver a rest as like you say it’s so easy to sit down with a glass of wine. I refused to healthy eat at the same time or exercise to not put too much pressure on myself all at once. Have one for me 🙂
I will do Angela
Three or Four alcohol free days a week every week all year. That’s a good plan for life I feel and recommended by those in the know. I agree that denying yourself things completely, never works as you just crave them and feel miserable! Good Luck!
Yep agree Charlotte although I’ll stick to the three days a week off!!
i don’t usually sign up to these things but have this time as I barely drink from one week to the next anyway (I’m more of a binger) so can’t see it being much of a challenge & if I don’t drink at all then I’ll be more in control of my eating, and I will therefore eat the right food, feel less sluggish & be able to exercise more…win win! See you on the other side…
