When it comes to purchasing shoes, there are a number of factors to consider, the most important being that they fit properly. Although, fit and style now go hand-in-hand like they never did before.
No matter where you purchase your shoes, always buy high quality shoes that will last as long as possible. After all, you use your shoes daily and want to be comfortable and stylish at the same time.
Here are several helpful tips for choosing the right shoes. The shoes that actually fit you and that you will want to wear because they are comfortable as well as stylish.
Measure Your Feet
Before you start shopping for new shoes, measure each of your feet. It should be no secret that everyone’s feet are slightly different in size between the two. Always go with the bigger size foot. Typically, it is only by a small amount that a foot would be bigger, but it will make a difference in the fit and comfort of your shoes.
When measuring your feet, do it in the mid-afternoon. This is because your feet expand over the course of the day and the afternoon is the perfect time for an accurate measurement. Another way to get an accurate measurement of your feet is to take a plain piece of paper and trace your foot while wearing socks. Then, using a ruler, measure from the heel to the toe and from side to side.
Remember, every time you go to purchase new shoes, take new measurements. Feet grow and shrink with age. The size you wore last year may not be the same size you will wear this year.
In addition, if you had any changes, like a pregnancy, a broken foot or ankle, or even a sprain, your foot size will have definitely changed.
Shoe Width
You will need to include the width measurement as this is important in properly fitting shoes.
Long ago, shoes did not come in different widths, although feet have always been different sizes. Today you can shop specifically for wide shoes, which is great for men and women with thicker feet.
If a shoe company you want to purchase from does not offer the width of the shoes they carry, you may want to consider an alternative shop.
If you are standing on your feet all day for your job, consider getting a bit wider shoe to begin with. This is because your feet will expand over the course of a day and with a little room, your feet will feel better at the end of your shift.
Keep in mind, a shoe that is half a size bigger, which means the length, will not necessarily be better for a wider foot. When trying on shoes, if the ball of your foot feels compacted, this is a sign that the shoe is going to be too thin and you need a wider fit.
Socks
When measuring your feet, wear the same socks you plan on wearing when you take your new shoes home and wear them. Socks are important shock absorbers and of course, come in a variety of thicknesses. If you don’t like wearing socks, measure your feet without them.
When you plan on going shoe shopping, make sure you are either wearing the socks or bring them with you that you will eventually be wearing with your new shoes. Women who wear nylon stockings will also need to try on their new shoes with this type of foot covering.
It is important to measure your feet in the thickest socks you will wear with this particular pair of new shoes in order to make sure the shoes fit properly.
Shoes for Different Occasions
You should purchase a different pair of shoes for each different occasion or activity. Tennis or casual, shoes will not always work with a fancy dress or a business suit. High heels will not work for gardening and outdoor sports.
Shoes are manufactured for different purposes and so they should be purchased and worn for those specific activities. That is not to say you can’t wear loafers or tennis shoes with a pantsuit or skirt, but heels will not go with everything.
Shoe Sizes
There are a number of shoes manufactured in other countries and they do not have the same sizing system as the United States. The majority of shoe stores will have some type of conversion chart that shows what sizes are in different countries and what they translate into in USA sizes. If they don’t have the chart, look it up online to get the best shoe fit.
Trust Your Own Comfort
Remember, shoes are not meant to be “broken in.” They should fit comfortably for the first time you put them on until the last day you wear them. Of course, your shoes will loosen with months of wear, but they should not be too tight on the first wearing. Also, if they are so loose they fall off, they were not of high quality, to begin with.
There should also be just under about a half-inch from your longest toe to the end of the inside of the shoe. If you remember shoe shopping when you were younger, the salesperson or your parent would always tell you to “wiggle” your big toe while they would push down on the top of the shoe. This was to give you a little growing room. That near half-inch is now for comfort and in case there is any swelling in your feet, which can happen as you age.
Think about comfort when you are looking for new shoes. Today’s styles are more comfortable while not sacrificing style in a way that shoes were created just a decade ago.
Memory foam and arch insoles as well as inserts to prevent different foot ailments are standard in some brands of shoes. If you take your time when shoe shopping, you will find both comfort and style in the same shoe.

I don’t like shoes that are a little big for me. But I love buying sneakers in boys store.
