Are you a splurger or organised shopper?

I am quite an organised person and always tend to think ahead, birthdays are written in my diary and I always have lists on the go be it blog posts, presents to buy or just things I need to prioritise. Now that the children are back at school I do start thinking about Erin’s birthday and dare I say it Christmas. That doesn’t mean I rush out and do my shopping but I am the person that buys things as and when I see them. Yes I will hold my hand up and say that I saw a bauble in the Accessorise sale at 70% off that had a a pair of Christmas knickers in them and so I bought it  (for Chloe not me). Likewise the Monsoon sale is a weakness of mine cue buying heavily reduced cute cat purses and hair bobbles for Erin! Therefore about this time of year I start organising my bottom drawer and writing lists of what I have found and put away over the year. I have the lists in my diary so when I am out shopping I have it on me to check I haven’t already got something similar. I also need to ensure that the value and amount of gifts end up closely matched for the children!

I don’t buy the big presents encase the children change their mind but Christmas stockings are fair game and the more I can find and buy cheaply the better. Our Christmas stockings tend have have a few traditional items in them for each of the children. Dylan’s will have a few jokes and tricks he can play on people, this year it could be fake blood and last year it was a pretend parking ticket that grandad was subjected too.

Chloe’s will have some toiletries, make up and silly socks, like those in my image from Hawkins Bazaar.

Erin’s will have a few traditional and educational games to keep her occupied.  I love making up their stockings it is an important part of Christmas for me and we all open them together in bed whilst having a cup of coffee.  It is just the same routine that I had when growing up!
Getting organised with these stocking fillers now means that I can take my time choosing thoughtful gifts and I can also spread the cost over the autumn months and just leave the bigger purchases until later in the year.  I love feeling organised in December and it gives me time to really enjoy all the carol concerts and school activities that run and I am not rushing about with the crowds panic buying.
In the image are some of my favourite choices from Hawkins Bazaar which is a great shop to easily find things for everyone in the family.

  1. I’m definitely a mix of both! I’m super organized with Christmas, I always buy things months in advance when I see things on sale that I know friends or family will love. I typically tend to buy my god-daughters gifts for the following year in the January sales – soooo many bargains! It seems silly paying full price for a toy she might use a few times when you can get 70% off 11 months beforehand!

  2. Stockings are great to put together. I just wish I had someone do one for me still! I’ve not started my Xmas shopping yet, but usually would have got bits and pieces by now. But I’ve still got 5 birthdays to buy for between now and Christmas.

  3. any normal time of the year I’m an organised shopper. I know what I need and I go and get it. Christmas time I am definitely a splurger. I love christmas shopping and I usually by all sorts that we didn’t really need

  4. I’m a splurger and I absolutely hate it. I waste so much money and tend to impulse buy. I have begun to reign myself in though and am trying to be more organised and buy what I need not what I always want.

  5. I’m a splurger, or rather I was until I met my husband, he is the total opposite so thankfully he’s reined me back in and otherwise I’ve become a master at the art of ‘no no I have this coat aages’!!!
