Now that travel has opened back up many of us are searching for a minibreak this Autumn in Europe. There are so many exciting options and destinations but in this post, we are focusing on brilliant autumn minibreaks with teenagers.
Why European minibreaks are important for teens
A minibreak is perfect for teenagers who often want to explore the location and travel can also be educational. If your teenager is learning a language for GCSE or A-Level then submerging yourself in the culture and language is really important. It will really help to speak and understand the language the more that you are exposed to it. For GCSE and A-Level there is a speaking component to the exams therefore practising in the country helps with vocabulary and accent.
If your teen is studying art or history it can bring their studies alive by visiting the culture they are reading about. You can add another layer of depth to their understanding as they can visualise the places.
Why visit Europe in Autumn
Once the summer is over, kids throughout Europe go back to school and the majority of people back to work, Europe is significantly less crowded. That means you won’t have to elbow your way around a museum or stand in line forever to visit an attraction.
You can also find some great budget breaks in Autumn as the peak season is over. This can make travelling with teenagers more affordable as you may need more rooms or interconnecting rooms.
6 Places to visit this autumn in Europe
France and especially Paris is a great European destination to visit with teenagers. The Louvre is probably one of the greatest museums, home to so much art many teens will know about including of course the Mona Lisa. Paris is also well known for its huge flea markets and for fashion. There is much to see and do in Paris for teenagers.
If you visit Paris, Disneyland is also worth a visit and if you are looking for somewhere to eat check out these recommendations for Downtown Restaurants.
Another great place to spend autumn in Europe is the Netherlands because the familie funpark Bobbejaanland is situated there. This theme park is a fun day out for the whole family and has a number of decent rollercoasters for thrill-seekers including teenagers. As you would expect there is a range of rides and a number of food options once inside the park.

Denmark also follows plenty for teenagers to do in Europe. Home of lego many will want to visit Billund and reminisce about their favourite childhood toy. There is also lots of street art to enjoy around the area. No visit is complete without a trip to BonBon Land sjove steder i Danmark. You will be entertained with such rides as the Vild-Svinet, which is a wild boar ride, as well as the Baever Rafting, there are over 60 rides and attractions. Be warned though that this amusement park is not for the faint-hearted with its farting sound effects and gross humour! But that is what makes teenagers love it all the more!
Tuscany is always beautiful in autumn and after visiting, in October I wrote Things To Do in Tuscany with Teenagers. I would love to be wandering those streets again and taking it all in.
Iceland has become a really popular choice for autumn in Europe and seeing the Northern Lights is one of the main reasons a lot of people visit Iceland. Peak viewing season for the Northern Lights in Iceland is always September through March when the nights are long. Your budding Geographers will love to see this natural phenomena in all its glory.
Finally, Croatia is a brilliant destination for active teenagers to enjoy this autumn in Europe. Your teens can explore this beautiful city during a stand up paddle tour to combine fun, exercise and sightseeing all in one tour. Younger people will love the “pirate cruise with lunch & drinks” on a replica of Christopher Columbus’s boat while parents will enjoy a cocktail. There is also a 2-hour Game of Thrones Tour during which you will be able to see the different film locations of the famous series.
Do let me know where else you recommend when visiting autumn in Europe with teenagers.
