We all need to stay active. Why not combine a bit of physical activity with a fun day out that all the family can enjoy? Here are just a few action-packed ideas that are certain to create lasting memories.
Horse riding
You’ll find farms and horse riding centres all over the country that offer the chance to ride. Whilst getting the thrill of riding a horse, you’ll also get to explore the countryside. Most horse riding centres will offer tours of routes using well-trained horses that don’t require too much direction. Families of more experienced riders may be able to try out different activities. There may even be ponies for young children to ride.
Kayaking
If there’s a major river local to you (or you live by the sea), there may be an opportunity to go kayaking. This is a great water sport that anyone can do and you can generally set your own pace. Some companies will offer single canoes whilst others will offer two-person kayaks. You may also be able to go on a tour with someone, or take your own route (providing that each kid is accompanied by an adult). Everyone will be given a life-jacket in case someone falls in.
Treetop trails
Treetop trails as set up by companies such as Go Ape can be perfect for families of thrill seekers. These involve tackling an obstacle course up in the trees, which may involve everything from rope swings to zip-wiring. Children will often have to be accompanied by adults to ensure that rules involving clips and carabiners are strictly followed. These adventure parks will often have a number of trails to try out with each one increasing in difficulty. There are usually ones suited to kids, although small kids may not be able to take part.
Paintball
Paintballing gives you the chance to team up and shoot one another and can be great if you’ve got boys. The likes of Delta Force Paintball own hundreds of arenas across the country to choose from and supply all equipment. A whole day out will generally get you a multitude of games, all set in different scenarios such as capture the flag or defend the fortress. There’s generally an age restriction when it comes to this sport so be wary of this if you’re thinking of booking a game and you have small kids.
Go Karting
Go karting gives everyone the chance to race against one another, giving kids the chance to get behind a wheel and adults the chance to liberate themselves from the smooth driving of the road. There are an array of different kinds of tracks that you can go to from indoor tracks to large outdoor ones. If you’re taking small kids, there may be the option to rent a two person car in which the child rides with the adult.
