We’ve all been there. Watching over our children’s shoulders while they collect the party bag after a fun two hours at soft play wondering what delights it will contain.
We’d like to offer you some alternatives to party bags. Not only will you be helping to save the environment by reducing the amount of single-use plastic items, but you will also be helping to make parents’ lives that little bit better.
Books
Many children adore books, so giving them one to enjoy at the end of a party can really promote a positive reaction. This may seem like an expensive alternative to a party bag, but it does not have to be like that. There are plenty of discounted book stores both online and in the high street. If you are unsure that a book to read will be appreciated, why not consider a colouring book and pack of felt tips or coloured pencils instead?
Filled Containers
Kids love sweets. There is absolutely no denying that. However, the fiddly little packets inside most party bags cause a lot of avoidable waste. Consider stuffing a reusable plastic beaker, possibly with a favourite character on the side, with a variety of sweets. Alternatively, for older children, grab some reasonably-priced mugs and put all the dry ingredients inside for making a mug cake. Be sure to attach the recipe as well.
Items of Clothing
If you are having a select few children attend the party, you may wish to spend a little more on a little treat with which to send them home. You could even theme a garment to go along with the party. So many unicorn fans these days that these unicorn birthday shirts would be so gladly received. Personalised items always look good. Also consider funky socks, caps and gloves, which are universally appreciated too.
Grow your Own
If you have some green fingered guests, consider giving a packet of seeds. Perhaps you could send them away with the possibility of growing some vegetables or some interesting flowers. Bulbs are another great option. Grow-your-own kits are great and you can find some reasonably priced ones if you buy at certain times of the year. Just be sure to check the use by date.
Lucky Dip
Buy a selection of presents suitable for a wide range of people. Wrap them up and place in a basket to make it look very special and exciting. At the end of the party, guests can go and pick their own gift from the basket. The element of surprise is always fun. Doing this means that you do not have to find 15 identical gifts and it can certainly save you money in the long run.
Photographs
If you are hosting the party at your house, why not pull together a selection of props and create your child’s very own photo booth. Take a photo of each child striking a pose, print and gift to them as a keepsake of the party. If you buy some funky frames to put them in, even better. Be sure to get permission from the parents in advance though to avoid any potential safeguarding issues.
