This month Tots with Part Select have a fab competition asking what is our must have appliance. They want to hear our stories of appliances gone wrong, our most valued apppliance or the appliance we couldn’t live without. The prize is an amazing house clean and a generous helping of shopping vouchers. Now I am in need of this deep clean. We are a very busy family of five and let’s face it I prefer being online to cleaning.
I sat and thought – I wondered if a car battery was an appliance as I have a great story about when Lee unpacked a new battery in the living room of our student accommodation. It leaked, it burnt a whole in the carpet. Therefore to avoid losing our deposit he cut a circle of carpet out from under the stairs and stuck it on the burnt section with a prit stick! Whenever our landlady called someone stood on the spot. We actually got away with that!!
Alternatively I could say about how vital a washing machine is – that is the appliance that I could not function without. This week it leaked and at 7.10 am before leaving the house at 7.30 I was frantically mopping up. Thank goodness we have a tiled floor or I would have been in tears. The washing machine has been a bit temperamental for a while and by using the laptop Lee has been able to diagnose and treat the problem buying small parts from sites like part select that have fixed the problem and saved me some money. However my washing machine as functional and important as it is does not pull on my heart strings. I have no attachment to it and would happily trade it in for another. Alternatively we tried living with no shower for weeks that was torture, my wine cooler is pretty impressive and those that know me know how much I love a glass of the good stuff once Erin is in bed (not on school nights obviously :)).
Yet the appliance I picked to feature is one I do have an emotional attachment to. The appliance that I am currently sharing my life with is special. It is good looking, it sits on the side whispering sweet nothings to me when I walk past it. I really care for it and make sure it is kept in the best condition. I wipe it and nurture it, never wanting it to look unloved. It has been with me through the good and bad, whatever time of day or night it is waiting to help me out. I cannot imagine being without it since it has arrived in our lives. When I wake in the morning it greats me with a welcome hug. It wakes me up and gives me the energy to start the day. When the children are feeling under the weather, are cold or tired, the little treat it provides perks them up. All three of them equally love the warmth it spreads in their tummies. It is my little slice of me time. I can switch off and just take five minutes to sit, sometimes I do whilst online. Occasionally I even do it in the bath!!!
I would like to see these prescribed on the NHS. Everyone would benefit, it can reduce stress and make you smile. Mums all over should have access to one. My favourite is a Costa Caramel Latte. Yes my favourite appliance is my Tassimo. Hot chocolate, lattes and cappuccino all available at the push of a button. In fact if I am lucky enough to win this competition I would be buying more pods and trying more flavours! My older two love making themselves a hot chocolate in the evenings whilst snuggled under our heated blanket – oh heck that’s another appliance we love.
Sharing is caring!
