We are almost a week back into term time and the shine is wearing off! Erin has completed two afternoons and whilst she is loving school even declaring ‘school is better than nursery’ I find only doing afternoons a bit of a pain really. We seem to spend all morning clock watching and waiting to get ready for school at 12.30 so far we have achieved zero with our gained time. I would like to go swimming but worry about tiring her out too much before school! Yet if we had been allocated mornings we could do as we pleased come the afternoon.
My other gripes include lunchboxes. I am already struggling for inspiration and failing to make lunch either healthy or appetizing. Erin will be having free school lunches under the new government scheme but I still need to provide for the older two. Whilst I adore looking at the fab bento style lunches I don’t think that my ten year old would appreciate the gesture of little pandas stuck into his smiley cut dinosaur sandwiches and the fourteen year old just wants a chicken burger from the canteen. Hardly a healthy a lunch!
To continue my gripes and parenting fails I still haven’t managed to label all any of the uniform because I lost my name tags somewhere in the house, but to compensate I have new ones now on order, so that’s a fun job to look forward to plus I wonder what parts of the will uniform and stationary get lost in the meantime.
I wrote yesterday about my biggest gripe when you are the parent of a year six student I had a sleepless night last and will be glad when Saturday is behind us and we are eating a lovely lunch at Dylan’s chosen venue.
As if that isn’t enough I am back to being chief taxi driver and cleaner. My hallway looks like a dumping ground with bags, PE kits, hockey sticks and shoes strewn across the floor making it an obstacle course to exit the front door.
Plus finally now that term time has resumed so have the clubs, Saturday mornings are once again the property of football coaches, swimming lessons and dance halls. I fling myself from venue to venue cursing the traffic and desperate for a cup of coffee. Gone are our lovely days out and leisurely lie-ins where we get up and have sausage sandwiches for breakfast
Termtime is delightful isn’t it and I for one am already looking forward to half term when we will be sunning ourselves in Spain as we catch the last bit of summer before hibernating for the winter.
Sharing is caring!

I know exactly what you mean… despite getting some time back to myself, I am longing to go back to the easy days of summer holidays (hmmm, rose tinted spectacles maybe?!). Am also waiting for the novelty of Junior school to wear off and problems to appear…. always best to be prepared 😉 x
I do find the clock watching a pain I’m not really gaining any me time because I potter about then I have to zoom off again! Luckily my daughter is the only one old enough for after school things she does rainbows on Fridays. I think I’d rather be able to hop in a car walking lots has shattered is all! My house is also a dumping ground! I’m glad of the routine summer is too long a break for me!
