Having a toddler in a hip spica throws up lots of challenges, and providing Erin with different seating options is a paramount part of her care, as its essential that she is regularly moved to prevent pressure sores. Believe me this is an aspect I take no risks with because her skin could be so easily compromised, Bean bags provide excellent support for the obvious reason that they mold to the body. Bean bag bazaar sent Erin one of their kids baz bags (that come in a range of colours), the bag is just perfect as it is big enough to give her support and prop her up. It offers a number of solutions to seating.
The bean bags have been featured on many of TV’s top shows including X Factor, 60 Minute Makeover and Britain’s Top Model to name a few. I am using the Baz bag to prop Erin into a seating position, and using it with a low table gives her some of her independance back. It allows her to play independently and also have snacks on the table. As the bag is made from a water resistant material it means that it is wipe free, which is ideal for Erin and any mess she makes. The bag is even suitable for outdoor use which I am sure will be a positive feature in the spring. Erin will still be in Spica then so it will allow her to get into the garden.
I also use the bag as a floor cushion as it gives her tummy time and the spica bar simply molds into the floor cushion, she can then play with her cars or puzzles on the floor. Any parents looking for essential equipment for a child in a spica should seriously consider buying this.
It has the added bonus of being easily transportable, funky looking and practical. In fact once Erin is tucked up in bed the tween loves sitting on it and surfing the net! She has already asked if it can go into her room when Erin eventually comes out of the hip spica (estimated to be in August 2012).
