Hooking Erin up to the hoover must seem like the most crazy review I have done to date, but it works! The purpose is that cast cooler simply sucks air out of a cast. You place the cover over part of the cast, attach it to the vacuum and it begins to suck out moisture which keeps the cast smelling fresher and reduces itching.
When the lovely Cover my cast contacted me after hearing about Erin on twitter they asked if I’d like to try out cast cooler once Erin was in spica. Believe me I will do whatever it takes to get Erin through this challenge and make life easier for her. When it arrived it was not what I was expecting, I’m not sure what I was expecting but this didn’t look too remarkable. I showed Erin, then plugged her up to the hoover and switched on. To be honest I wasn’t sure if this was going to be too much for my nearly two yr old who isn’t that keen when I am usually hoovering around her.

Since then I have used it twice a day to keep Erin feeling fresh, she loves it. Her skin doesn’t feel clammy afterwards and when I ask Erin if she wants it on she always says ‘yes- nice’ She is more than able to take it off if she wanted but she leaves it alone and gets on with playing instead. Now the only downside is the noise. My hoover is quite loud so you can’t watch TV whislt using it. I would love to find away to make it quieter or have a less noisy vaccum. Maybe this is something that can be worked on in the future. The cast cooler suits all casts, as you can see I have used it with a hip spica but it is also suitable for arms and legs.
You can also use the cast cooler if the cast gets accidently wet atall and you need to dry out the lining. I really rate this, although I can’t experience it for myself I know little Erin would not tolerate it if she didn’t like the effects.
