The nights are darker, the sun sets earlier and we are hurtling towards the middle of November. November see’s my youngest girl turn six. I look at her and am amazed that after all she has been through and all she will probably still face that she is such a confident and contented little girl. Things seem different now that the older two are both at secondary school, Chloe is considering her A Levels and I have to accept that she is on the verge of making huge life decisions. Last night she went to bed later than me and I can’t tell her what time she should sleep from anymore. I look at my children and am immensely proud of them. One of the joys of having older kids is that I have a ready made babysitter for the rare occasions Lee and I go out.
Friday night was one such treat as we were invited to eat at Oakwood Table Table. Therefore we left the older two in charge, with a bottle of coke and chocolates and headed out for dinner. Table Table is part of the Whitbread group and offers good affordable food suitable for the whole family. There are several menu options from Daytime meals, evening meals and even kids eat free before 5pm promotions and of course a winter menu.
As it was just the two of us we decided to go for a steak each. We skipped starters in favour of a desert! We both chose the Rib Eye Steak (16.99) and mine was served with a bernaise sauce plus chunky chips, mushrooms and peas. The food arrived quicker than our drinks but the waiter quickly addressed that when he realised. The staff were very attentive and our server was especially chatty and engaging which was nice. If we are honest it wasn’t the best steak I’d had but I think that was the cut.
Desert on the other hand was lovely – I went for cheesecake and Lee for a black forest sundae. The decor of Oakwood was lovely, all fresh looking and clean. There was plenty space to enjoy evening drinks or a meal. i saw many enjoying a relaxed bottle of wine after a busy working week. It is certainly the place to go for an informal night out with the other half, family or friends.
It was good just to have some time with the husband after a busy week of work to have a conversation in peace without being interrupted by our three children. One of the side effects of children getting older is that they are often sitting with you for longer in the evenings. Whilst I love that they would often be downstairs with us rather then shut in their bedrooms it does mean that sometimes I feel I can go days without having a proper conversation without the children being around. infact our meal out means we actually decided what our Christmas and New Year plans will and we have even discussed buying Christmas presents and it is not even December!
Disclosure: The meal from Table Table was complimentary for the purpose of our review. Thoughts and images my own.

The food looks lovely, I don’t think I’ve ever been to a Table Table before! x
The desert looks good! It’s always nice to have an evening out. I can’t even imagine when my little one will be doing A levels, my goodness. It must be exciting seeing them grow up though 🙂 Xx
Yum.yum im getting hungry now. The last time we have been out for dinner without the kids was in September so not too long ago. It’s nice to get out without the kids for once to be honest.
Looks lovely! Shame about the steak but as much as I love it it can always be so hit and miss depending on the cut! I`ve never tried a Table Table before, it looks like somewhere I’d like x
