Life is feeling really good and settled right now and I am enjoying my new role of working freelance and being at home much more for the children. Gone are the rushed mornings and the work commute swapped for an early morning run after dropping the children at school.
The big difference I am noticing is that everything is calmer and I feel much happier. I love teaching my subject sociology but having the burden of marking and prep is very consuming when you have a young family, I always felt that I wasn’t doing enough and now that has disappeared. With Lee working as assistant head we just couldn’t manage it all. I have said it before but I am certainly finding as the children get older they actually need me more. Rather than changing bottoms and feeding I am now a personal taxi service to their many social engagements and clubs. I am their mentor in having important conversations on handling friendship issues and long term career plans. I am their teacher when it comes to homework and making choices about which subjects to study and I am mum with cuddles when it sometimes all just gets to much. I love that I am here able to give them my full attention once again. Plus we can even have a roast midweek! The children and Lee all enjoyed a roast lamb dinner last night – on a Thursday! I actually have time to go to Tesco in the week without dragging Erin about with me and she appreciates that, life is good and it really is time to crack open the rose champagne.
I am really inspired with my blog again after reading some brilliant books on taking my blog further and as a result I have set myself some goals. I am also heading to a women’s business club for a networking event. I will write about it afterwards but thought I’d try it and see if it works for me. It will be different but I am all inspired to be different. Also having time to read other blogs outside of my friendship group is great and there really are some amazing women out there writing brilliant posts.
Another change has been that the children are all really settled. Erin has amazed me with how much she loves school. For a child with various health issues coupled with the fact that she is my right hand woman and likes to be with me so much she is flourishing. I help out two mornings a week and watching her make new friends and find a love of learning is such a great experience and one that I would not have had if I was still in the classroom.
For anyone considering a change of career I say go for it. I am a risk taker that is part of my personality and I am glad that I was able to stop the merry go around for a while and consider my future. I haven’t decided that I won’t ever go back to teaching but I have decided right now life couldn’t be better for me.
If you are reading this and are one of the lovely people that has shared contacts, given me a sponsored post or an amazing opportunity via the blog – thank you as you really are appreciated and helping me to achieve my dreams and an amazing work life balance. If you have a short / long term writing jobs do please consider me again!
Sharing is caring!
