How do you like yours? I like Gin, I like it alot and it is great to see that it has had a real resurgence in recent years. I first starting hearing about Gin Festivals last year and was immediately interested. This year I was lucky enough to be invited to the Gin Festival, Blackfriars Gloucester Review.
I took my friend Becky with me, and unbelievably Becky was new to Gin. However by the end of the evening she had found a new tipple!
The Gin Festival is held in Blackfriars Gloucester which is a 13th century medieval Priory site. Following renovations, the beautiful historic fabric has been retained and you can now experience the beauty of the site including the private courtyard garden, the magnificent scale of the original scissor-braced roof and the Scriptorium, the oldest and most well preserved, medieval library in Britain. It was certainly a wonderful backdrop to trying numerous gin’s in the summer sunshine.
On arrival at the Gin Festival you are given your glass, a tasting guide and and bag to hold your glass in. There are four separate bars where you can try gins from around the world. Bar D was my favourite. Fever Tree Tonic is readily available and the knowledgeable bar staff will recommend which suits each Gin.
To pay for the drinks it operates on a token system. Each token is £5 and one token is required for each drink. The Gin Cocktails are two tokens.
In a second room there was gin tasting and also master classes. We didn’t make a masterclass but spoke to others who did. They really enjoyed these talks and learnt about Gin.
Instead Becky and I were sampling Gin’s and we spent lots of time with the fantastic Tinker Gin brand. We were discussing the benefits of Gin for quite a while! We also really enjoyed Brockmans neat!
Then we moved through to try a Gin Cocktail, we went for a Prosecco Gin cocktail as we do like prosecco too! The cocktail was lovely and when you watch the vlog we can see how it was made.
I have also been working with my friends at Aldi who recently sent me Prosecco to make cocktails this month! It’s all about cocktails!
Aldi’s suggestion is:
Ingredients
- 150ml Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG, Aldi, £7.99
- 20ml fresh orange juice
- 1 cup frozen whole strawberries
- 1 teaspoon honey
- Garnish with fresh strawberries or oranges
Method
- Blend all ingredients together until smooth
- Garnish with orange slices and/or strawberries as desired
- Serve immediately

I am going to share the fact that I do not like Gin. Seriously I do not see the attraction!
Mmmmm…. gin. Who even knew there was such a thing as a gin festival? So funny.
You had me at gin . . . I always look for a gin based cocktail rather than vodka or rum or similar.
