Would you go outside in nightwear?

Oh how standards have changed in the past few years.  Lounge wear – clothes designed to wear at home in the evening.  Slouchy, comfy.  I get that.  I like having a bath and getting snuggly, sitting under my heated blanket, watching TV or more often than not blogging.  My bestie bought me a onesie for my birthday and I love it.  It keeps me warm and is great apart from going to the toilet.  I always feel exposed sitting on the loo with the top half out on display!

However today I saw the evidence that standards of dress had slipped.  My own teen, Chloe, a beautiful girl who is oh so concerned with her appearance and hair arrived home at 11am after a sleepover with her best friends.  Nothing unusual there the door flew open with her energetic ‘morning’ and she popped her face into the lounge where I was having a coffee with a friend.  ‘Just going to get dressed’ she cheerily called, half covered by the much coveted green parka that was near the top of the Christmas list.  However my eyes darted to the bottoms.  Pajama bottoms no less.  These friends she stayed with live about three minutes from house.  And yes my daughter had walked the short distance in her PJ’s rather than get dressed.  When I chastised her she laughed, telling me it wasnt worth getting dressed as she needed to get into her dance clothes.  Therefore what was the point in getting dressed only to get changed a few minutes later??

I failed to see her reasoning.  She then told me that when she was in the cinema the evening before – there were some girls watching the film in their onesies.

I was not impressed.

Chloe has said she would not do that and that it looked silly.

I would not dream of leaving the front of my house in nightwear.  I have on occasion gone to my wheelie bin in the back garden but always feel exposed and worry that I could be seen.

Where has this change come from and more importantly why.  I have never as such even driven in my slippers when dropping Chloe at friends or Lee at snooker even though I have been tempted.

So would you go outside in nightwear???

  1. Apparently, in Liverpool it’s normal to go to the city centre in pjs. I put the bins out, and in extreme situations I go to he corner shop to get the guardian. Honestly, no one minds.

  2. I love my pjs, I would happily stay in my pjs all day. The rule is, if you have to go out of the garden gate then you must be dressed. I see far too many people at the school gates or even shopping in their nightwear and it is wrong.

  3. I’ll go as far as the front gate in my PJs. I wouldn’t contemplate going to a shop in them.
Mind you I have driven hubby to work in my PJs, with my pink fluffy dressing gown on top!
And…when we were on cruise I went to watch a late night film in a nightie with a cardi on top..several people did three same.
