Helping at School and Knowing DDH Still Haunts Me

One of the things I was looking forward to once no longer teaching myself, was being able to help out at Dyl’s and Erin’s primary school. Unsurprisingly Chloe has vetoed me helping at St Peters as a mentor but Dyl and Erin like me being at their school!  This week I did my normal tasks but also helped with the nativity.

I knew Erin was a snowman as I had been contemplating the costume!  But I didn’t know what it involved.  I found out that it involves Erin leading her class onto stage.  This was enough to catch my breath.  This, remember, is the girl I still use a buggy for at weekends because she hurts.  This week I saw the stage and this was enough to make me panic she would lose her balance and fall off the stage and smash her operated on hip.

In my mind she twirled and span until she fell and her hip cracked.

In reality she span and had complete control. she was happy, she was equal.

I cried.

It was a rehearsal.

But I could see the toddler I doubted would ever walk and the toddler that limped , dragging a leg behind her.

No one else could see that because she smashed it!

I cried, I cried out of relief, out of fear and probably of other emotions that I cannot even articulate.

It was only a rehearsal

Next week is the real thing

I will cry.

I am so proud of my DDH baby.  I don’t know what the future holds for her hip wise but I know she will continue to lead her class and be dancing to her hearts content.
