Visiting the theatre and seeing a show is such a treat – as an adult I enjoy the theatre and how it brings a play / dance or story to life. The theatre is accessible for all the family and if you take the time to find the perfect show it can develop a life long love of the arts. The benefits of watching a show at the theatre is immense. From watching a story unfold children can emphasise with characters and watch how everyday issues are resolved. It can give the skills to help develop friendships and resolve tricky situations. Basically it can be a great tool in the parenting handbook.
As children get older watching a play can help with understanding a text – which is ideal for GCSE students. Just last week Chloe and I watched Of Mice and Men which is one of her texts, she has said that it has made a huge difference to her understanding of the themes and characters. However in order for children to benefit like this they need to feel comfortable and at ease in a theatre or large venue. One way to achieve this is by introducing shows at a young age and panto is a great introduction as is children’s shows including Disney On Ice.

I can’t wait to take Erin and develop that love of the theatre, plus she is a huge Disney fan and seeing her favourite characters dancing and telling a tale will be the perfect day trip in the Easter Holidays.
