The magic of Father Christmas at Prinknash

Today we have had a little bit of magic.  I wanted to take Erin somewhere special and amazing to see Father Christmas (Lapland would be amazing but probably a little too cold for her and way out of my budget!).  Four is such a magical age when the wonder is at it’s most powerful.  When the dreams really mix with reality and it is such a precious time.

I had looked at Prinknash online and decided this was where I would take Erin. It is a little more expensive than I had done with her before (because you pay for adults too) but now the older two feel that they don’t need to visit the man in red I was happy to pay £9 each.  My sat nav decided to take me the most unlikely route – the place is only about four miles from my house but I wasn’t exactly sure how to get there.  My sat nav obviously had the same issue as I ended up on a dirt track in the middle of a field.  A little detour later I finally got there and both Erin and I gasped in awe and wonder.  The disabled parking gave us the most beautiful view of the park lit up with dazzling lights.  Once again it made me grateful that I live in such a beautiful part of the country.  We arrived and headed to the tent to have Erin’s facepainted which is included in the ticket price.  Erin choose to be a reindeer.  Then we started on our woodland walk meeting the Christmas Fairy in her Romany caravan along the way.

The whole walk was magical with Erin telling me she loved me and it was so beautiful. Once we had finshed looking at the Nativity in the Wendy House and walked past the swans we went to visit Father Christmas. We had a bit of a wait but it was lovely watching Erin getting more and more excitied. When it was our turn we were gretted by Father Christmas in his huge wooded sleigh. A professional photographer takes a picture although you can still take your own. Erin then put in her request of puzzles and was given a gift. As I bought the photo I was overcome with emotion and had tears streaming down my face. I think it was just because she saw it as oh so magical and I just reflected on how far she has come this past year.

This is a great place if you are looking for somewhere special to visit Father Christmas in Gloucestershire. I am so glad I parted with my money and made Erin’s dreams come true.  Prinknash is open from 3.30 till 6pm everyday this next week.
