Over the past three months I have been trialling the Modius Headset from Modius Health and today I am sharing my final thoughts after using the Modius headset for three months. In this time I have worn the headset for an hour a day, typically in the evening whilst watching TV. The Modius headset encourages weight loss by reducing cravings, decreasing appetite and making you feel fuller quicker but did it work for me?
The Science Bit
Unlike other weight loss programmes Modius targets the brain and not the gut. Traditionally we have seen appetite suppressants or surgical approaches including gastric bands that restrict our food intake when trying to lose weight. Modius is different and here we explain why:
Modius is making the whole process of losing weight easier by sending a safe electrical pulse into the vestibular nerve (found just below the surface of your skin, behind your ear).
This pulse stimulates this nerve which we know positively influences the hypothalamus and brain stem to reduce cravings, decrease appetite and makes you feel fuller, quicker.
Wearing the headset has gotten easier over time as initially, the swaying effect I spoke about in my 6 week Modius review was challenging. However, I moved beyond that and was able to increase the levels and walk around the house.
Research has shown that the average weight loss after wearing the Modius is 9.9lb and I am pleased to say I lost just a fraction more than that in the three months.
I am 10lbs lighter but I cannot put that all down to the Modius headset. I attend the gym three times a week which includes interval training and weight training. Therefore I cannot easily distinguish which has had the most effect on my weight loss. I certainly feel slimmer and look better and do believe that the Modius has played a part in my weight loss. That said, I was already attending the gym and therefore something has speeded up my weight loss during the past three months.
I have certainly noticed that I have reduced my sweet cravings since wearing the device although I am still drinking the wine! I often eat when bored or for emotional reasons and the modius cannot stop that so you do need to be mindful and make a choice too. It is not simple and infact that is my main message, losing weight is both a physical and emotional thing and everything needs to align to make those life changes.
The Modius headset has played a part in my weight loss but it is not a magic cure – you still need to be active in the process and not just think this offers all the answers. I have committed to three sessions at a gym, group training and this is the toughest exercise I have ever done.
I have also been eating better and upping my protein intake both with protein shakes and foods. I know this works for me and together the elements have enabled me to be in the right mindset to lose weight. I need to lose weight, to be healthier, there is a big online wave currently about body confidence and whilst I don’t think women should aspire to look a certain way I have reached over 40 and it is definitely impacting on my weight and health. It is harder to for me personally to keep at the weight I am happy with and I need to look after myself as we have a family history of type 2 diabetes, I had gestational diabetes in all three pregnancies and owe it to myself to be the best version of me.
Here are my before and after photos – can you see a difference?
Modius Headset: My conclusion
Since starting the modius trial I have lost weight, 10lbs worth of weight and I am pleased with that. I feel better because of it. That said, it has been a holistic approach of moving more, eating better and wearing the headset. Modius offer a 90 day money back guarantee which is a great offer and might be the incentive for giving it a try.
