February half term is fast approaching and many of us look for ways to entertain our children in a budget. Here in Gloucestershire we are really lucky to have beautiful countryside that we can enjoy. It is a good time to pack the wellies and warm coats and get outdoors. Beechenhurst has fabulous walks and activities for families including the Stick man Trail. By getting outside you can blow away the cobwebs and have some fun. There are also play areas that are also popular whilst the grown ups have a hot drink.
Likewise Westonbirt arboretum is stunning, although there is a small entrance free there again is a great playpark to keep children entertained.
On the walk why not collect some leaves, twigs and bits to make a collage at home. Erin loves anything crafty and would make a woodland picture after a walk. You could even set a little project for the child to complete over the week (yes I am still a teacher at heart!!)
Secondly arrange a play date, especially for the start of the week. I always find if Erin has a friend over she can entertain herself for longer especially when you make an invitation to play and the play environment is inviting. Another advantage of this is that you are often invited to the child’s house next and therefore can grab yourself a free afternoon in return, ideal if you are working from home!
Next idea is the cinema by making use of Meerkat Offers you can get a buy one get one free on tickets. if you don’t have the Meerkat deal, buy a one day travel insurance and that entitles you to take up the offer for the next year. The cinema is a great treat especially if it is raining. the Meerkat offer works on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
These three ideas can save your money and save your sanity especially if your child likes the ‘I’m bored’ phrase! Some of my fellow bloggers also have some great ideas for half term which you can read all about here:
