We love our homes in England; the fabled saying that “an Englishman’s home is his castle” exists for a reason. Even if we don’t entirely live in Buckingham palace, there is no reason why we can’t feel like royalty in our homes.
Considering how long it takes for the average Briton to get onto the property ladder, it stands to reason that we should relish our spaces with care because after all the madness that each day holds, this should be the one space that we can return to that centres us, surrounds us with love and creative energy, and also provides a space for healing.
All so that we can live to take on another day.
So with that being said, we’re going to help you turn your bedroom from just a place to lay down your head into a sleep sanctuary that will have you slumbering on a cloud and awakening to your little slice of heaven.
“The sole purpose of the bedroom is to melt away any stressors”. – Jonathan Scott
Those words by the Canadian reality television personality and home contractor extraordinaire, are all the motivational words we need. Now, we know that at this point, many of you may be sighing or giving us the eye-roll because it’s been quite a challenging year for British finances, but here’s the good news: redecorating your bedroom doesn’t have to cost a second mortgage on your home.
FIRST, INVEST IN QUALITY FABRICS
If you are going to spend some cash, this is where you want to spend it. If you already have a decent bed and mattress, and you don’t need to haul out a heap of cash for that, then repurpose some of your resources towards super high-quality fabrics, linens, and pillows. Note that the size of your bed can significantly impact the comfort and spaciousness of your room, so opting for a space-efficient single bed ensures you make the most out of your available space while maintaining a cozy atmosphere.
Way before you think of lovely gadgets or lighting (more on that later, keep reading), you need to think about this. After all, recent studies have indicated that we’ll spend around 300 000 hours of our lives sleeping, so ensuring a top-quality snooze is more than a luxury; it is, by definition – a necessity.
Think Egyptian cotton sheets; cotton blended duvet covers with silks and textured materials that give your room a luxurious and high-end feel.
MATTRESS MATTERS
Have you ever wondered why regular hotel guests have a specific brand they choose to visit each time they’re in town? Now, this is where you might have to spend a bit of money to really get that “sinking” feeling – the one we like. It has less to do with the bar downstairs and more to do with the bed upstairs than you think.
Hotel chains, cruise lines and lodges spend obscene amounts of money on getting unique, bespoke beds and mattresses made just for them that you couldn’t buy elsewhere if you tried. They’re doing that for a reason.
While you’re at it, what is the state of your bed? Do you need new bed frames, a new base or a headboard? Find it, save for it, love it.
AND FINALLY…
Many of you are not going to like this, but – keep technology out of your room. There is no space for it here for many reasons. For one, you should love the one you’re with (and if that’s just you, learn to love your solitude), and for two, the blue light that comes off of the screen of our gadgets is proven to disrupt our sleep patterns and cycles.
We need a lot of sleep over our lifetimes, so make it count.
Sharing is caring!
