Why should you visit Leeds?

This week is half term and we always enjoy going away even if only for a very short break.  City breaks in the UK are great as there is always so much on offer and my children (especially Dylan) love going to new places and seeing things.  We tend to go South and enjoy regular trips to London or the South Coast but really we should be looking north.  Lee and I met at University in Middlesborough and so the North East is very special to us.  We spent many dates exploring the what the North East has to offer and Leeds was also a place we visited.

This year there are some special events lined up in Leeds, like our home town of Gloucester, Leeds will be hosting two of The 2015 Rugby World Cup games.  This is sure to bring lots of visitors to the area both from other parts of the UK and overseas.  It will ensure that Leeds is bubbling in the excitement of the world cup.

If you are a foodie the Leeds Food and Drink from May 22nd until June 7th maybe your cup of tea (and slice of cake).  I really enjoy visiting food shows and sampling all the local delights on offer.  This is also great with children who usually graze there way through the day!

If finding out about the history of places is how you spend your time, again, Leeds has plenty to offer it’s visitors.  Harewood House and Gardens is just 7 miles from the city and is open from April to November.  Harewood  os one of the Treasure Houses of England and the historic Georgian property sits within “Capability” Brown designed landscape.   It has remarkable views from the award winning Terraces. Visitors are promised a treat as they say Come inside and you’ll be blown away by rare Chippendale furniture and jaw-dropping interior designs in the State Rooms. Make sure you leave time to explore the well-trodden corridors of Below Stairs. A place where young kitchen hands can dress up and discover life as a servant, or you can explore the changing programme of contemporary art exhibitions in the Terrace Gallery.
