Rome is a wonderful city. It is compact, so is very easy to get around. There is plenty to see and do, so it is relatively easy to find something to keep everyone occupied. That is one of the reasons it is such a good destination for families. As you will see, there is no shortage of things for you and your kids to enjoy while you are there.

Introduce your children to the arts

Holidays are a great time to introduce your children to something new. If you are visiting Rome, as you can see from this site there are plenty of opportunities for the whole family to enjoy the opera, classical music concerts, ballets and more besides.

At the time of writing this, none of Rome’s opera companies were offering performances that were specifically tailored to children. So, you will need to check the length of the show to make sure it is short enough for your child to sit through and still enjoy. Outdoor performances tend to be more interesting too. So, consider them.

While your children are very small, stick to letting them listen to the street performers. All kinds of music is performed by Rome’s buskers.

Send the kids to gladiator school

A visit to the Forum is a must. It is one of the best-preserved ancient Roman sites in the city. It is easy to see how this iconic landmark was used to entertain the city’s residence. If you have the time to do so, consider booking your kids into the gladiator school. The kids get to physically take part. So, it is a good way of burning up some of their energy. A visit to the gladiator’s museum is included in the price.

Take a Segway tour

If your children are big enough to do so, take the Segway tour. It is great fun and a quick and easy way to see the city’s main attractions.

Book yourself a Rome for kid’s tours

Several tour companies have packages that are specifically designed for kids. The guides take a light-hearted, fun approach which makes things as interesting as possible. But, tickets for these tours go fast, so it is wise to check availability and book in advance. The family-friendly Colosseum tour is just one example of the kind of tour I am talking about.

Take them to Circus Maximus

Circus Maximus is where the chariot races used to be held. It is easy to visualise where the horses used to storm past the spectators, because you can clearly see where the track ran. Plus, you get the chance to let the kids run around a bit and let off steam.

Most of the city’s biggest museums regularly run exhibitions that have been created with children in mind. This article tells you about the best of them.

Enjoy one of Rome’s waterparks

If you want to take the day off of touring the city’s landmarks, consider visiting one of Rome’s waterparks. At the time of my writing this article, there were 4 to choose between. There is also a fairly big theme park called Rainbow MagicLand, which is also worth a visit.

As you can see, you really are spoilt for choice, when it comes to kid-friendly activities to enjoy. If you do decide to visit this beautiful city, consider booking your venue and tour tickets in advance. Doing so will save you from having to queue.
