The Warehouse Climbing Centre is an indoor climbing and caving centre with a whole host of activities on offer for children and adults alike. If you have never climbed before it doesn’t matter as the trained instructors will quickly have you at ease and help you have an enjoyable experience.
Wall Climbing Gloucester is an activity we have tried before but we were invited back to try some of the activities on offer this summer and I took two 12-year-old girls who had a fab time.
What to expect when wall climbing in Gloucester?
We were in a small group of about six children and they started off in the bouldering room. This is a low-level wall room in which you start building confidence. Next, we moved on to the interactive digi wall where the children played a number of games. The games included turning off lights in a race against each other. This enables the children to climb and move on the wall at speed. Again this builds confidence and skills without the young people overthinking it.
After a number of games, the children then moved into the main climbing room. They were fitted with a harness and safety rules were explained.
The dedicated Kids’ Zone includes a children’s auto-belay room which means the children don’t need to rely on each other for safety support.
The girls had so much fun climbing under the supervision of their instructor who was always encouraging and supportive. Erin went higher each time she climbed and got a real sense of achievement with each go.
After wall climbing we were taken to the caving room. Once again the kids were given a brief safety talk and they were fitted with their helmets. The caving room is a 100 metre-long artificial caving system which features a realistic series of exciting subterranean tunnels and chambers. Erin found this challenging and was nervous but she gave it a good go.
Where is the Warehouse Climbing Centre?
The Warehouse is in the centre of Gloucester and there is plenty of parking near the venue. We parked in one of the city center carparks. The climbing centre can be found in Parliament Street, Gloucester GL1 1HY.
What to wear when wall climbing in Gloucester
You will need to wear clean supportive shoes, trainers are ideal. You will want to wear comfy clothes that are not restrictive, leggings and t shirt or joggers are perfect.

The day comprises of 30 minute ‘mini-taster’ activities running all day, including:
- Caving – in our 90m long artificial caving system
- DigiWall climbing – on our electronic, interactive 2m wall (half climbing wall, half computer game!)
- Kids autobelay climbing – with ropes & harness on our smaller kids walls up to 6.5m
- Adults autobelay climbing – with ropes & harness on our bigger walls up to 11m
- Bouldering – low level 4m walls without ropes or a harness
- Plus a load of special offers & promotions throughout the day!

Parties at Warehouse Climbing Centre
The Warehouse offers parties at which we have been a guest and also where my daughter has been the birthday girl. It is a great venue for a party and food is also available in a party room.
Refreshments
If you drop your kids to a kids session or party you don’t need to stay with them. You could choose to take some time out in the large cafe which serves a range of hot and cold drinks. Food is also available with a range of snacks or more substantial meals. This is ideal if the kids want something to do but you would rather sit and chill, or even bring a laptop and do a bit of work! I’m always looking for places where the kids are kept busy and entertained yet I can work – the joys of being a freelancer!

Oh wow, there’s so much there now! I haven’t been for years, but my youngest always loves it when we see The Warehouse team at events and he always has a go so that he can press the buzzer at the top! x
