It doesn’t matter if you see that there is a casual work environment and a casual dress code for the employees. As a standard rule of thumb, dressing in appropriate interview attire will help you give off the right impression.
So, what should you wear?
Whether you are going to a retail job interview or are going to be working in an office environment you need to dress as smartly as you can for your interview. Proper dressing is simple and avoids anything that you would probably wear to the beach with your friends or on a night out. The tank tops, flip flops, and crop tops should definitely stay in your wardrobe. That goes for baseball caps too.
A young man should wear a good pair of smart trousers and a button-down shirt. Some places are more relaxed and the hiring manager may even let you know in advance that khaki pants and a polo shirt could be acceptable. Even if you do wear a more relaxed interview outfit do wear dress shoes, trainers are certainly not ok. Neither are jeans. You may often think that because you wear dark jeans you can pass them off as a proper pair of trousers, but that’s not the case. Especially not for a job interview.
Young women have a few more options than young men do, but it is also essential to keep it simple and not overcomplicate things. A smart pair of dark trousers and a dress shirt can work equally well for teenage girls as it does for teenage boys. The same can be said for a pencil skirt and a white shirt or a nice blouse or even a tailored dress. Dark colors tend to be more acceptable as are neutrals.
When it comes to footwear, do keep open-toed shoes at home and choose a smart closed toe shoe. Make sure your shoes are clean, too!
If you are a little short on money and don’t have clothes for a professional look then you could always head to the charity shop where you are bound to find suitable attire. Charity shops or Vinted are full of great buys if you know what you are looking for.

Body piercings should be taken out and also keep in mind not to wear too much perfume or cologne. It is always a better option to steer clear of loud colors and too much makeup.
