Pegasus Life have challenged me to come up with a few ways to celebrate the development of their new modern retirement homes in Gloucestershire, they have asked me why Gloucestershire is a great place to live. Now, I am a bit biased as I am a Cheltenham girl born and bred. I left to go to University in Middlesbrough for three years and then moved to Ramsgate for one. I was soon back home and it’s where I plan to stay. My family are all close which I treasure. My grandad actually lived a bit in the sticks in Dursley but moved to Cheltenham to be nearer us all which is good as my nan had poor health for a few years before she died and my grandad himself now has dementia but is cared for and looked after by my parents in his own home.
Cheltenham is pretty much seen as the centre of the Cotswolds and the heart of Gloucestershire, although Gloucester is the Cathedral city. If Gloucestershire is good enough for the royals including Prince Charles and his niece Zara it is good enough for me. True story is that my friend was in the toilets in a local club not so long ago when Zara was in there too!
What’s good about Gloucestershire.
- Cheltenham Racecourse, the Gold Cup in March is second to none. It is the highlight of the year and the area knows how to hold a classy event and to draw the crowds. I love it every year!
- Gloucester Cathedral is where parts of Harry Potter was filmed
- Puzzlewood in The Forest of Dean has had films including Star Wars filmed there.
- The shopping in Cheltenham is some of the best in the west! Plus it will be even more desirable when John Lewis. with it’s flagship store, lands later in the year.
- Eating out in the area caters for everyone and suits all budgets whether you want Simpsons fish and chips who are crowned the best in the UK or restaurant meals.
- If you enjoy nature and being outdoors a visiting Westonbirt Walks is a great way to keep fit and get outdoors.
Gloucestershire has much to offer and I am glad it is the place I chose to raise my little family and it is also great location to reach either Birmingham which is one hour away or London which is two hours away from Cheltenham. The transport links around the county make it easy to explore the area.
