Many of us have a fair bit of spare time right now. Yes, we are juggling home education and working from home, but even around that, we have the weekends and evenings at home. Time is a gift and we could utilise it at the minute to improve ourselves by undertaking some distance learning.

Now could be the perfect opportunity to take up a new skill or challenge to learn something that we have always wanted to. You could add to your skill set with a short course that could potentially become a side hustle in time that makes you some extra money. Alternatively, it could stand you above your colleagues and place you in a strong position for promotion when we get back to a more normal worklife.
The advantages of learning a new skill are tenfold, it is good to have something to focus on at the moment when we might need to keep our minds busy. Many of us have a reduced income so again a new skill could be monetised in the near future and help us build back up our savings. Learning a new skill is incredibly satisfying and gives us a huge sense of achievement and accomplishment.
If you have teenagers they could be inspired by a short course and it could open up more career choices that they have not previously considered. My 16-year-old is now not doing his GCSE’s meaning he has a very long summer off. I have been looking at courses with him to give him something to do that interests him.
Not all courses are academic, there are many creative courses and it can be the chance to do something off your bucket list that you have put off due to a lack of time. Maybe you have always wanted to do an A Level in Psychology or learn web design, whatever your preference distance learning courses online can help you achieve them.
When I started blogging I had no idea it would involve a career change for me and there are things I would love to do a course in to give me more skills. I would also like to have recognised qualifications as it would be good to add to my CV and expertise.

Three courses I would choose to do
- Life coaching, is designed for people who wish to gain an understanding of the principles and practice of Life Coaching and establish a business providing Life Coaching.
- I have been working on my own seo on my blogs so a course on this would be great. The Introduction to Search Engine Optimisation Online Course will help students to identify relevant keywords and structure your website and content to present these in the best possible way.
- I need to take photos for my blog and also for instagram. I have a good camera but would love to do a course. The Digital Photography – Level 3 Course has been written to provide students with a sound understanding of how a camera works, to give a background to camera care and the mechanics of photography. The course has lots of tips and information and is ideal for students who are looking for a new hobby, thinking of a new career in photography or even if you just want to understand how to take great photographs for your next family party
Sharing is caring!
