Parenting a boy is different to parenting a girl – there I said it and I am not referring to stereotypes, gender expectations or the ambitions I have for them. I am referring to shoes! School shoes especially.

My eldest girl has had her fair share of bumps and breaks, she needed her head glued once when she fell off the trim trail at primary school and she has broken bones through sport related injuries including breaking an ankle sledging one winter but with boys it is different.
Dylan’s injuries have nearly always resulted in boisterous play in the playground. A banged head and one time a nasty graze on his arm that needed cleaning in hospital have all resulted from boys playing football at lunchtimes.
Ripped trousers and a new pair of shoes each term is pretty much standard therefore when I heard about Treads and their indestructible shoes my eyebrows raised.
Treads make indestructible, premium leather school shoes for boys and girls aged 6 to 16.
Treads website offers free delivery, free returns, and a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Treads shoes are constructed using the ‘Strobel’ technique – the upper is placed into a mold and the sole is injected around it to create a strong, flexible unit that does not require glue. Further features include reinforced heels and seams, and shock-absorbing insoles.
To accommodate growing feet, a removable EVA footbed allows extra room and depth increasing the width from a standard to wide fitting.
I was gifted a pair of school shoes for both Erin and Dylan and I am really impressed with the quality and the appearance of them. They look really sturdy and I am hoping they prove that they are indestructible! You’d think that at almost 16 my son would have stopped playing football at lunchtime but it seems not! I find getting good shoes especially hard for him because he is a tall young man and many school shoes do not go up to age 16.
Treads have also offered one of my readers the opportunity to win a pair of shoes of there choosing. To enter fill in the Rafflecopter below. The competition finishes 20th November .

Oh yes I can so relate to this, my son is 15 and exactly the same with his shoes, trainers etc, my girls are 7 and 2, my 7 year old daughter goes through tights like no tomorrow and they aren’t cheap for the grey tights xxx
“Wow, I can totally relate to this! I have twins, one boy and one girl, and the difference in wear and tear on their school shoes is night and day. My son’s shoes seem to always bear the brunt of his football escapades during break time.
I’ve been on the hunt for a durable pair for him, and Treads sounds like a game-changer. Thanks for sharing your experience; I’ll definitely be checking them out before the new term starts. Also, fingers crossed for the Rafflecopter competition!”
