The lockdown, while leaving us in our homes has also left us with plenty of time on our hands, which is a resource more expensive than gold when used right. There couldn’t be a better time to make a productive use of it by completing tasks that were otherwise left ignored, such as learning a new skill. Even if you didn’t have a skill on your list and are confused, here’s 5 new cool skills that you can learn while you’re on lockdown.
Learn New Skills During Lockdown

Learn a new language
Whether it’s the elegance of French or the romantic tones of Spanish, a new language is a great skill to consider learning. Research also shows that people who are bilingual are more likely to outperform ones who speak a single language in terms of tasks that use executive functions such as problem-solving. While you probably won’t have a conversational level of grasp on the language early on, even having a basic understanding will motivate you to learn more! Erin and I are learning French using the Collins Audio Easy Learning System which will give her a head start for secondary school. It is easy to listen too and she is picking up the language quickly.
Teaching You About Personal Finance
We all have a basic grasp on our financial situation but you’d be surprised to see how much money you can save and processes you can optimize when you have the skills to take an in-depth look at your financials. Personal finance education is also cheaply or freely available all over the internet, with the paid courses offering a bit more but the free ones doing the job as well. You’ll also save time when learning about methods of handling financials through a software. Even reviewing your own spending will help you save more going forward. Learn An Artistic Skill
This sounds really vague, because it’s supposed to be. Every person has their own favorite form of art. Some like modern, digital art. Others prefer capturing the world in photographs, while some just like the good ol’ paint and canvas. Whatever you like, artistic skills can not be overlooked, especially because it also affects brain development. Practicing art improves your perception and releases serotonin, the pleasure hormone that makes you feel good. You can find inspiration in my 20 DIY Crafts for Teenagers.
Learn to cook a new receipe
Cooking can be considered an art form of itself. You can try new salads, drinks, desserts, snacks, different cuisines, the list goes on. There are lots of websites on the internet that can help you with regard, since you won’t always have all the ingredients you’d want in a lockdown. All you need to do is enter what ingredients you have on hand, and it will give you a list of all the different recipes you can try out!
