Broken again.

Yesterday afternoon I received an all to familiar text from Chloe:

‘Had a bit of an injury at lunch me and my friends were playing catch with a rugby ball and my fingers bent backwards, it really hurts and I think its broke’

Now if you know and read you will know that yes I have my own parking space at the hospital, that yes I could probably walk the sterile corridors blindfolded.  That yes when you send us to Xray that we don’t need directions, our legs know exactly how many steps there are between A&E and the X-ray machine.

After Chloe spending over two hours in A&E with grandad she has once again come home bandaged and in a sling. We will soon enough be heading back to orthopedics to see what damage has been caused this time.  I am concerned as to why she keeps in breaking, I know she is very sporty and therefore at greater risk of injury but to break fingers twice from catching a ball?

Both the girls are hypermobile and whilst Erin’s is rather obvious and clearly diagnosed with Hypermobility Syndrome it is Chloe who is dislocating and breaking more at the moment.  Since breaking her ankle eighteen months ago she has broken the little bones in her foot twice, broken a finger, endured whiplash from weight lifting and now broken her finger again.  Whilst these are relatively small breaks they are nonetheless frustrating and her friends who are just as sporty do not experience these injuries for doing the same activities.

Chloe is tall, willowy and athletic and just mightly annoyed by these traumas. I feel for her and curse that her joints are easily dislocating and breaking.  This time it is a more problematic as she has also moved the growth plates in addition to having the fracture.  I can’t help but question why her yet again.
