We have a month left to squeeze in some family fun before 5 becomes 4. I’m sure I’m not the only parent apprehensive about their 18 year old heading off to university. However, my feelings are more about me than her. I know that Chloe is ready and will be just fine. Yet I can’t imagine her not being here and not seeing her most days.
The first one to fly the nest, luckily my nest won’t be empty but there will be a Chloe shaped hole. Therefore for the next month, I plan to squeeze in some extra family fun. We have already managed a lazy breakfast in Cheltenham and this week we also went to Hollywood Bowl for a fun evening.
It can be difficult finding things to do that suit all the family now that we have two teenagers and an 8 year old. Yet the solution was found at ten pin bowling. Hollywood Bowl is located in the Brewery Quarter of Cheltenham which is where many of the towns restaurants and leisure facilities can be found. This is a really vibrant area and there is plenty on hand for all the family.
The five of us arrived for a couple of games of ten pin bowling and we planned to make an evening of it, with food and playing in the arcade too. Hollywood Bowl have VIP lanes which made us feel really special and Erin certainly felt like a star!
The VIP lanes mean that you have more space, a little privacy for your family night and a member of staff on hand to replenish your drinks and save you waiting at the bar. We were able to order our drinks from our server which were delivered to us (we totally recommend the thick shakes) and again we ordered our meals halfway through our second game which meant we didn’t have to wait. You can choose to eat in your VIP lane or at a table. We opted to eat after playing to enjoy it more.
Bowling is so family friendly, I really like that Erin was able to have the barriers up so that she didn’t get frustrated, yet they were down for the rest of us as we got competitive! We are quite a sporty and competitive family so as you can imagine there was plenty of banter and winding each other up. Erin actually won the first game and she certainly let us know it!! Watching her playing with her siblings is great and I know she will be the one who really misses Chloe when she moves to her halls of residence.
After the second game, we wandered over to our table for dinner. The menu offers the usual burgers and hot dogs you would expect to find in an American diner style eatery. It was good to see that there were lighter options including a cob and salad and also a children’s menu. The boys opted for Hotdogs whilst Chloe and me went for the LA Burger. This was really yummy with just the right amount of pulled pork on top of the burger.
The food was quickly delivered to the table and we all enjoyed it. We decided to skip desserts as we were all full from the shake we had! But we did find time to challenge each other in the games arcade! The girls played Mario Cart whilst the boys took on some aliens at Space Invaders.
Spending the evening at Hollywood Bowl was lots of fun and we enjoyed each others company. I struggle to think of places that we can all spend a few hours together doing something active. Bowling definitely meets that criteria. Hollywoood Bowling often has great promotions running like Bowl and Drink for just £5 before 6pm or the Family Deal for a family of 4 so it is worth keeping an eye on the website.
Now what else do you suggest for somewhere that can bring the whole family for a fun evening?
Hollywood Bowl also wants you to share your very own celebratory moment at their nearest Hollywood Bowl centre for a chance to win an incredible package entitling you to a bowling pass for up to four people, a round of drinks, and a main meal per person in the diner for one month.
